My 1 year old is only able to eat fruit (but not banana), vegetables (but not onion, tomato, capsicum, chilli), potato flour, millet products, cinnamon, rice products, sunflower oil and meat. I'm trying to find recipes that work - especially for baking and treats (no bicarb soda or eggs, of course). I can't seem to use preservatives either --- any hints please? Many thanks ...

There are entire books on this. You might want to try some kosher cooking books, because all the meat recipes will exclude dairy and the Passover recipes exclude yeast and avoid many kinds of flour. I also like the Silver Palate Basics books for general recipes -- their vegetable section is superb.

Try making chicken soup -- toss a chicken in a pot of water but don't let it boil, plus lots of veggies, and let it cook for an hour or so. Delicious, and you can store it in the freezer and heat it up in the microwave in an instant. A lot of kids like soup. I'd also try lots of herbs to flavor things -- you'll have to experiment with what works.

Good luck!

WOW that's a hard one, I eat a wheat free and gluten free diet myself, so i can buy a lot of products, but from the sounds of things you will be cooking most things yourself if you need to avoid bicarb, vegetable gum, eggs and preservatives.

If you haven't yet, then i would see your GP and get your baby diagnosed, and ask to be referred to a nutritionist as a diet that excludes many types of foods from such a young age may need to be supplemented to ensure your baby develops correctly.

The products you have listed that your baby can eat can be used to make a few recipes, for savory dishes you can focus on rice and as you child gets older offer pilaf, risotto and stir frys. A nice recipe that young children like is a plain kedgeree made from rice, fish, sweetcorn and topped with parsley and boiled egg.

Kids love potatoes too, mash is always a winner, as are baked potatoes.

Baking and treats is going to be hard with no bicarb and no eggs, so i would investigate recipes that use guar gum instead. I would also contact Lifestyle Healthcare as they produce some additional products to their gluten free range that mat be suitable. http://www.gfdiet.com/

Please see your GP if you have not done so yet.
