I had my tonsils taken out in July...I was 25. It took a while before I didn't have a lot of pain...I would say it was manageable within 10 days or so. From personal experience, avoid warm foods for at least a week or so...I was eating mac and cheese and soup which made the scabs on my throat come off and I hemorrhaged. Also, dairy products caused a lot of congestion...I stuck with popsicles, snow balls, applesauce, and jello. Hope this helps!

Depends on how long after surgery and rate the pain, 1-10 on scale, 10 being the worst pain you've ever had or could imagine experiencing.
