Electricity can kill plants in one of the same ways it kills animals--by "cooking" the cells (denaturing proteins) Consider the lightening strike or plants touching an electric fence.

Plants seem to be affected to a lesser degree than animals (I suppose this is due to the lack of a nervous system). If a person is struck by lightening he will very likely die. A tree can be hit and very often survive.
