It warms my heart to hear someone say "I'm questioning." I'm so glad that you're actually using your mind and not following on blind faith. From this point on you must continue to question till you find something that makes sense to you.

Wow. What a penetrating Question. You're a horse trader, aren't you? (They are known for getting down to the basics, knowing their deal breakers and intimidating the other).
The attributes of my eclectic Christianity: When I accepted Jesus as Savior, a gush of hatred, bitterness and self will went out of me. It's been over 35 years; so, sometimes, I forget that part. And deep in my soul was peace; I had never had that before. 'It is well with my soul' is an old hymn that is apropos.
Having a 'relationship' with someone as courageous, brilliant, dignified, balanced psychologically and privy to the wonders and secrets of the universe is nice. May I suggest a s-l-o-w reading of the Book of John, in any bible..(fourth gospel).
I think an ignoble and poor reason to move toward Jesus is fear of a hell. Don't get me wrong, it must be horrid, whatever it is; but, not a reason to form a relationship. I find it wondrous that God will take we humans on those terms. Blows my mind in fact....It's kinda like, I don't care how you get to Me, just get to me !!! LOL
A third major attribute of being an eclectic Christian is: My life has a meaning and purpose for the Kingdom of the Most High God. Some of the time, Iam in the dark, i.e. not sure what that purpose is; but, at other times it is soooo clear and sooo simple. I am a cog in the wheel of God's correction and evolution of this world and humans. Wow !!!
There are three big ones of many, do not want to bore you.
The proof of my religion....hmmmmm, my balanced psyche is my subjective proof of my religion. Jesus epitomized a balance of masculine and feminine, ot the thinking and feeling aspects of we humans, of the valuing and discriminating functions of the psyche; and so do I. It has taken years of hard work, but....that's the carrot on the end of the stick --to be conformed into the likeness of Christ.
I hope this helps you start your sorting, discriminating and valuing process. It's a terrible thing to flounder religiously.....like a fish on the land, instinctively jumping and jerking...And, if it helps.....there is always emotional turmoil prior to peace.

I am an atheist/nihilist.
Proof is relative. Even 2+2=4, when someone hold 2 apples in one hand and 2 apples in another, and tells you that this is 4, is open to interpretation. If you refuse to believe there are 4 apples there, it won't be proven to you.
It's sad really.
But, I've got a feeling that if you ask enough questions and find enough rational answers you can come to the same conclusion that a growing number of us have. And this that there is no God, there never was, he's a myth made up to both control people easier and get people, not strong enough to live without false hope, through the day.

I am a Celtic Pagan. it is not our desire to our belief to try to convert people to our way of life. and this is the thought process that i liked most about the religion.
As a Pagan religion we believe in many gods. thus the gods of other cultures must be real and true gods. so they are accepted and this makes their people easier to accept. we are not bound by the belief that they are somehow evil because they believe differantly than us.
also we believe in a kind of Karma or universal backlash all deeds. thus once you do something bad it will come back to you. the gods will forgive, but that does not stop the wheel of fate from returning to you the pain that you visited on others.
furthermore we do not believe in any hell or afterlife of punishment. and because of this we worship out of love and not fear.
these are the things that i like most about the religion. and the fact that no building or gathering to worship is required means that it is a free religion. no money should ever change hands for religious teachings. and because of the loose knit system it makes it very easy for people to be a solitary spiritual person.
as for you i would urge you to look to the god that you already believe in, but possibly to question the doctrine of the religion established to worship him. anyone can talk to the gods, so i would say that you should talk to yours. and to find your own path of what is right and wrong.

Wow, I don't think that was a typo, did you try to sound that out ? :O
I have thousands of pieces of evidence for evolution, and several other theories that go against organized religions.
Evolution is a fact and a theory.
I choose to be an atheist, not agnostic, because just like any other archetype that the complexities of the ever expanding human mind could think of, there is, and never has been any evidence of deities. Religion started as polytheistic. Just because an archetype was thought up, does not mean it is logical to accept the possibility of its existance without any signs of its authenticity.

If you are Jewish then you probably would not like Gnosticism. Not to offend you, but it does not take a very good view of Yahweh.
On the other hand, it has a lot to offer in the way of tolerance, love, compassion, and non-violent ways. In fact, Gnostics believe that it is better to die for God, than to kill for God. Unfortunately, it was exactly that attribute that led to their original demise. Since the discovery and translation of the Nag Hammadi Library, Gnosticism is making a comeback.

Islam is based on submission to the Creator, the worship of Him alone, by following what He revealed unto his Messengers (the final one being Muhammad (peace and blessings of God be upon him))
The truth of Islam is self-evident. God is the Creator, the First and the Last, the All-Knowing, the All-Powerful. Everything submits to Him willingly or unwillingly. The straight path is to submit to His legislative decree, just as He alone created us, and if He will ssomething for us, we have no choice in the matter. In other words we have to submit to His will and follow what He is pleased with.
The question arises though, how do we know how we should submit to God?
Well it shouldnt be based upon what people "guess" what God is pleased with, or fathom with their own intellects, but rahter it should be based upon what God reveals to select individuals. When you realize our purpose is to worship God(alone), then believing in what God reveals to certain individuals who preach nothing except this concept; individuals who do not preach to worship anything else, or to ascribe divinity to anything else; then believing in what God sent down to them is the straight path.

Not believing in something is the default position. If you want to believe in a unicorn, you need a reason. The same applies to a god.
