This is my rifle. There are many like it, but this one is mine. It is my life. I must master it as I must master my life. Without me my rifle is useless. Without my rifle, I am useless. I must fire my rifle true. I must shoot straighter than the enemy who is trying to kill me. I must shoot him before he shoots me. I will. My rifle and I know that what counts in war is not the rounds we fire, the noise of our burst, or the smoke we make. We know that it is the hits that count. We will hit. My rifle is human, even as I am human, because it is my life. Thus, I will learn it as a brother. I will learn its weaknesses, its strengths, its parts, its accessories, its sights and its barrel. I will keep my rifle clean and ready, even as I am clean and ready. We will become part of each other. Before God I swear this creed. My rifle and I are the defenders of my country. We are the masters of our enemy. We are the saviors of my life. So be it, until victory is America's and there is no enemy. - Marine Corps Rifleman's Creed.

This is not from Full Metal Jacket you nitwits. This is something every Marine hears and most learn in boot camp.

Regarding the statement about our founding fathers being rabid liberals, I completely disagree with you. Libertarian is what I think they were.

Oorah! -- and I was Army not a Marine.

Do the above YAs really think this came from the movie to the Marines and not the other way around?

Since the subject of gun ownership came up; In order to carry a concealed handgun in the state of Virginia you must: be 21, must show training in the use of a handgun (military or approved civilian course), pay a small processing fee and fill out a couple forms. You also need to go in and be fingerprinted. Most states that allow concealed weapons permits have similarrequirements.

So what is your point? Do you think liberals do not support training of our military?

Do you realize that liberals founded this country? Do you know that our founding fathers were not just liberal, but rabidly liberal? If left to the conservatives, we would still be a group of colonies.

While our military should always be ready for war, that does mean that we should go around invading countries that were no threat to us - like Iraq.

Now, are you just one of these war lovers that thinks war is glamorous? Then you are just insane. Seek professional help or see your local recruiter.

I must ask you this, why doesn't everyone have the same right to legally own and shoot a gun in America, isn't it better if every gun is able to be registered to the gun owner so we know where they are at? We have a lot of people in this country right now that have guns that don't realize how much trouble that they could really be in just for being found with them, not because they are or have committed a felony with a gun just because they have a mental health label. How is that fair? To me it is not.

It is only a criminal that would intentionally have a gun without wanting it to be legal. Then we have this point does the gun shoot people or is it the people that use them that shoot other people. How do we know who is going to actually do what before they do it?

People like you might not need to have a gun and I would bet that you are one of the ones that are legally able too, why is that? Or are you one of the ones that are not allowed to have a gun and do anyways?

Why can't / doesn't everyone have the same rights in America? At least until they are found guilty in a court of law of misusing that privelege?

Let me say this, sometimes I wake up thinking about stuff like this. I am not against our troops, never was, we were lied to our whole country was lied to. Then again it just goes to show how easily anyone even our Pres can be misled and form the wrong ideas and conclusions at times. He was wrong, it has never been the soldiers fault they were only taking commands.

No, I did not serve, but if things had of been different yes I would have. No, I don't want my kids in there dying, do you? I have seen more then my share of death so I know what that is.

My dad was also a frontline Naval duty person in WWII, he was on the skivvy boats, in all the major battles, and what little I have gleaned about war I learned from the little he told me and his writing and being around the VA medical when he had to go. He lost his hearing for our country and then our country denied him his benefits. There were all kinds of people drawing off the military and he wasn't allowed to. He ended up being proud of that.

I am not against the troops, I hope that they all get to come home safe if they don't you do know what that means don't you they will either be dead or they will be disabled for life and that is fact there is no other way around it.

For those of you that are pushing for this war to keep going just because you want it too, it is not funny. I am not sure what we should do now, I see no good solutions, but if the one you love dies in there tell me you won't cry, tell me you would not have wished it was different?

Our President shouldn't have lied to our country and he did, I don't know if that was on accident or on purpose, but he boldfacedly lied. I don't call myself a liberal or a conservative, I am just a human being wondering why it is the way it is.

I just don't think we should have our people over there getting wounded and dying. Is there some thing wrong with that? They didn't ask us to come. Now I don't know if we can get out of this until it is done.

You don't call me a coward that is not my reasoning behind anything that I say. I think it is is wrong that we went in there under false pretenses. That is not our soldiers faults, and many of them will be psychiatrically treated and drugged because of it. In fact they are doing it now.

We need to think about this hard, I don't have the answers, do you? I only know what death and dismemberment means. If it happens to be one of the ones that you love that it happens to then you tell me this war is a good thing, until then you can be as brave as you want to be.

It is not that I don't support our "soldiers" I do, because they have to be in there, how many of them really want to? If they want to do it then what does that say about them? Because someone is dying and a lot of it is innocent people that never did anything to any of us and some of them include children.

This is to all you idiots that think this came from the movies. Sit down, shut-up, and get a life. This prayer came from the military and not just the Marine Corps. I learned this in basic training. We had to say this prayer every morning, evening and on demand at any time the Drills called for it to be recited. If you idiots were not so chicken to serve your duty to your country you would know this.

no i do not think liberals would mind. but see what they say. i dont mind it, but then again im not in the military. the only people who should hate this, mind this, like this paragraphs ideas are the people in the military who are being given this creed to follow. in other words, you can't just sit here and hate what this is saying unless you were actually in the marines, and being shot at.
so in other words my opinion dont matter.

It is a mantra -- a phrase memorized and used to provide focus and aid in concentration. I'm not going to get into debating specific choice of phrasing.

And for someone whose profession involves the use of firearms, it makes sense to form a strong bond with that weapon. Just as professional warriors in every era of history formed bonds with their chosen weapon.

I am not a liberal, but I do have the utmost respect for those who choose to prefect any skill, including the use of guns and the other arts of war.

What does that have anything to do with where and how often that weapon should be used against other people?

And what does any of that have to do with liberal or conservative views on current military deployments?

You should have known that when you call out the liberals you are in for a lot of name calling. They hate the labels until they are ready to use one on a conservative.
