Natural Choice Large Breed, CONTROLLED GROWTH, puppy chow. Keep her on it for at least TWO years, then switch to Natural Choice Large Breed Adult food. There are several formulas to choose from as your dog ages.....for instance, a formula for active dogs, one for overweight dogs, one for older, less active dogs. Just make sure you read the labels and match her food to her age and condition. And, contrary to some opinions (and package directions!), keep her food (and water) bowl FULL all the time........unless there is something really wrong with her, she'll only eat when she's hungry and will NOT naturally overeat. Most dog foods tell you to feed adult dogs 2 cups per day........BULL*#@%!!! At that rate, a dog of her size and energy level will starve and/or become severely neurotic. I have had all kinds of dogs for over 50 years, and have NEVER had any health problems due to feeding and watering like this, and have ALWAYS had very healthy, happy, long-lived pets. Good luck with your pup.....hope you, too, have many happy healthy years together.

Do NOT EVER, EVER feed a Dane puppy a puppy food and this includes a large breed puppy formula. To do so can cause some very serious growth problems. You need to feed a Dane puppy a good quality adult formula that is no more then 24% protein.

Stay away from supermarket foods such as Science Diet, Pedigree, Purina, IAMS/Eukanuba,etc. They contain way to much cheap fillers. Corn, wheat and soy are high allergens and not easily digestible. Soy and corn have also been implicated in recent studies as a cause of unexplained seizures in dogs. Soy also causes excess gas something you very much want to avoid in a breed prone to bloat. Also dogs are carnivores..meat eaters not grain eaters.

Some very good choices:
Canidae, Chicken Soup for the Dog Lover's Soul, Innova (not EVO), Solid Gold, California Natural just to name a few.

I personally love Canidae All Life Stages for Danes in particular Dane puppies. It is excellant quality, easily digested, the correct protein level and is used by many top Great Dane breeders. I have used it and currently am using it for my Danes one of which is my current show puppy.

Since you have a Dane puppy I recommend a wonderful Dane book to you.It has a wealth of great info and is written by a very experienced, very knowledgable Dane lady..it has correct and easy to understand info. (be careful many Dane books don't have correct info especially in nutrition areas). The book... The Great Dane Model of Nobility by Jill Swedlow.

I don't know if there is a best food so to speak, but some good diets to check out are"
Pro Plan Large Breed Puppy or Hills Prescription Diet P/D Large Breed ( the latter is only available at you local vets office)
You want to go with a highend large breed formula because large breeds grow very fast and you want to prevent any joint damage that might occur from an improperly balanced food.

Hey, I work at a vet's office and we get this question all the time. Get Science Diet Large Breed Puppy Formula. It comes in dry food and in wet. Danes are hard to feed as in feeding a rich food will cause them to grow too tall too fast and will cause hip problems. You can buy it at your vet's office or I think it may be available at petsmart, but I'd buy it at the vets office just to be safe. Buying from the vets is a little more expensive, but for danes you can never be too safe. I had a dane and we fed her Dog Chow, puppy kind and she had problems. Purina is good too. Just make sure you get a large breed puppy formula

I have raised more dogs on just Purina Puppy chow, then switch them to Purina.
Worked for a Vet when I was in high school (LONG time ago)and he told me Purina was the best.
It has never failed me and is way cheaper than those other high class foods.
Witch ever one you decide on pike a quality brand and not some off the wall brand, such as is sold at tractor supply and such.
Purina makes dog food for puppies to older dogs.
They also make food for about any thing man raises even fish, LOL
They have a very extensive research lab.
Besides the diet, do not forget to have freshwater on hand for them at all time and make sure they get lots of exercise, and are kept up on their shots, heart worm medicine and most of all lots of love.
You will end up with a loving, healthy, partner for the life of your dog.

Hi, I understand that you are looking for some advice or resources to help fully train your dog or fix behavior problems. If a professional dog trainer is not an option at this time, or if you want to trt training your dog on your own (a great way to bond), I'd suggest you https://biturl.im/aUNSJ

A friend recommened it to me a few years ago, and I was amazed how quickly it worked, which is why I recommend it to others. The dog training academy also has as an excellent home training course.

I've heard that a HIGH-quality large breed adult dog food works fine. Something about puppy foods having too much protein, making the puppy grow too fast and put toomuch strain on the bones. I dunno, talk to a vet that doesn't sell dog food, because the ones that do will try to sel you their food, which is probably science-diet or eukanuba or some other crap that might as well be corn-on-the-cob.

A premium large (or giant) breed puppy food. I personally like Pro Plan. Many of the "holistic" brand foods do not offer a large breed formula, which Danes HAVE to have in order to develop properly.

find a natural food like Innova, Solid gold, Wellness, California's Natural. STAY AWAY from Eukanuba, Science Diet, Iams, Purina, Nutro, beniful, they all use fillers and and can cause health problems. Natural foods Innova, Solid gold, Wellness, California's Natural can actualy get rid of problems that Eukanuba, science diet, iams, Purina, and nutro(natural choice, beneful cause. such as hot spots, tumors, cysts. Natural foods are going to be harder to find and cost alittle more, but its worth it. ps. your not going to find them at petsmart or petco. look around online to find store by you that carry them. Also most natural foods contain Glucosimein Condroiton it keep joints healthy. also vets are rarely trained to know good do foods unless the studied them, so they probably will tell you that science diet is good just because science diet is usually sold to vets and science diet aslo supports vets in veterinary school. Ive had dogs on Eukanuba, science diet, iams, Purina, and nutro(natural choice, beneful and they were over weight even though i fed them the right amount and all had health problems. then is switched to all natural foods and my dogs have lived longer and have had no health problems what so ever. go natural foods
