Yeah but when it gets too long you won't be able to.

I have curly hair. Basically I spike it and then when it gets long I start styling it differently and keep it like that until I'm ready to cut it and go back to spikes.

Yes, but it would be difficult, straightened hair is much easier and it saves 5 hours of your life.
