I believe IAMS is the best dry dog food available..... however I wouldnt feed it to my dog. Dry dog food of any brand swells up in the stomach when it comes into contact with water that the dog drinks and if a dog has over eaten this can cause gastric torsion in some breeds.... and this is what can kill your dog. I feed my dog fresh meat or chicken and cooked vegetables , some rice etc... pretty much what I eat myself and we are both healthy.

Well, I personally feed my dogs a raw diet, which is superior to any commercial brand out there...but since you are looking for a commercial diet:

First off, the food should be made with "human-grade" ingredients. Otherwise the food can contain rancid meat from diseased animals and moldy grains. Also, look at how much grain is in the food. Dogs have no dietary need for carbohydrates, so grain is actually a cheap filler that holds the kibble's shape. Below is a link that helps you rate any dog food on the market by looking at its ingredients.

Innova EVO Red Meat if you have an adult dog is the best IMO and you don't need any soft food for a dog it is mostly water anyway

I feed Innova EVO, but here are some other high-quality brands:

Canidae, GO natural, Orijen, Fromms, Innova, California Natural........I'll add more in a bit, I can't think right now, sorry.

i really like timberwolf organics but the only down fall is that its expensive and you have to order it over the internet. or you could get innova at you local feed store.
innova evo has 42% protein which is high. i give that to my italian greyhound because she needs a high protein diet but i wouldnt give that to my basset hound or pitt bull because they will get really fat. so just regular innova is fine.

if it is iams dry food its ok its the cans and pouches that were recalled. if you do decide to change foods, do it slowly and switch to a food that has at least 26% protien in it. Also check the recall list at www.menufoods.com/recall/

i like that one that is something like natural balance, it comes in kibble/dry food and wet food. I like it because the dry food can be normal or diet. Wet food can be in so many flavors like fih and potaoes, beef, chicken, and other things.

I would recommend Royal Canin. My vet recommended it to me for my dogs. It's very good for them, and my dogs love it.
