My ex boyfriend is part greek on his mother's side but his last name is Davidson so I am wondering what ethnicity the last name comes from. English, German,Irish???

It's English and it means "son of David". But it's used mainly by Jews.
Johnson (or Jones): son of John
Erickson: son of Erick
Williamson (or Williams): son of William
Harrison (or Harris): son of Harry
Note that JACKSON is not "son of Jack", but "son of Jacob".
Jews use names, among others, ending by S (meaning "son"): Samuels, Daniels, Abrahams, Jacobs.
No, SAMSON doesn't mean "son of Sam".
I don't know a termination like "on", though there are names like Clinton, Byron, Stanton, Brandon. It sounds like French.
German Jews use termination STEIN: Einstein, Braunstein, Bernstein, Frankenstein.

he was named for a motorcycle when the greek side came to america. you know, harley davidson. saw it, like it, named him. hell my auntie named my nephew " Queens" when she came from Russia pregnant and no job. Just glad to be in Queens. So? He had to fight with a lot of smarties.
