I don't think many would take it at all. They get too good of a deal not paying taxes.. who would volunteer for those expenses if they don't have to. the only way to go about it is to offer amnesty, accept that 1/3 that would bite, then launch major sting operations and deport the rest of them. It's the only way to deal with the problem.

I honestly hope amnesty is NOT offered yet again. However, if that were to happen, I am in agreement with those who said that probably less than 1/3 of the illegal immigrants will even try for that. The rest, either knowing that they would not qualify, or leery of losing their tax-free status and all the other free benefits they currently enjoy, will not come forward to apply. I also believe that the bulk of illegals do not come to the USA with plans of staying forever. They have plans of maybe 10 years in which to earn enough money to return home and be able to either buy a small business at home and/or be able to retire on what they have already earned. Their US dollars will afford a pretty good lifestyle back home. I believe that very few of them care at all about receiving US citizenship. I also believe that many of them have their feelings changed once they get here and find themselves in relationships with US citizens, but that is something that happens, contrary to their original plans. Once they start having their anchor babies, they start to receive even more free benefits and the orignal desire to return home starts to dwindle. The longer they do stay, the less likely they are to actually return home on their own steam. However, even then, many do not care to receive legal status or even citizenship because that would entail paying taxes and losing their free benefits. I believe they just want to be able to stay illegally, but not have to worry about ever being deported.

Actually citizenship was never offered. What that was about was RESIDENCY in order to become citizens resident aliens still had to go through the normal process that takes almost a decade.
As far as how many would embrace amnesty I would guess all, however, amnesty is not on the table. What was proposed was a path to legalization, the path alone would take almost 5 years they would have to pay approximately $10,000 per individual if all 12 million were to do that it would mean treasury income of about 120,000,000,000 or about 120 billion bucks. Do they have that kind of money? Maybe... I wouldn't mind having that amount added to our treasury and use it to pay down the debt a bit. But one buck says that it would get used to give tax breaks to the very rich.

and I think very fue have interest in becoming a citizen of this country, mainly because the large family bonds back home in Mexico are far more important than remaining here for life, i just can't see that going on, i say less than 25% will be willing to go for it, they only want the work and then go back home where its warm most of the year and stay near family, your American family's live in America, would you live forever in another country away from them just for a extra amount of money, we live only to work, Mexicans work only to live, remember that, BUSH has already told the Mexican president last week that their can never be a across the board amnesty for all who are here in the USA, so really their is no problem.

Okay
here is the deal
why would they opt to start paying taxes when they can still get social security benefits, food stamps, housing assistance, education for their kids, And, still not have to fear any consequences at all except the possibility of being taken back across the border and having to make the return trip !!!
Besides, they, for the most part, are not here to avow any allegences to this nation or it's goals and purposes--- they are here for the economic benefits alone !! AND, being a tax payer is counter to THAT purpose entirely !!!

Neither. we ought to always make (almost) no longer plausible to artwork illegally in the united states, and maximum illegals will leave. that's like ants on the picnic -- at the same time as each of the foodstuff is lengthy gone, the ants bypass too. that's previous conception that figuring out on lettuce will pay $50/hr. some thing is inaccurate with that figure. the concept that "they" do the jobs that "human beings received't do" is absurd. The presence of determined illegals helps corporation to employ those who will do a similar job for far less money than is paid to a criminal worker. human beings should be refusing to artwork for those substandard wages and insisting that Congress make it no longer plausible for corporation to employ those determined illegals at substandard pay.

30+ million! Problem is that as soon as it becomes law there will be millions more that will come in illegally and lie about then they arrived.
So it will be the 30+ million that are here currently PLUS all the other ones that are just waiting in the wings to get the "brass ring."
