They are also very dumb in the video. Why do they choose the dumbest criminals? Is it so we can get a laugh and be entertained. The criminals are sooo dumb.

That is just how it is, most "normal" people, or should I say the average person has only contact with the police once in their lifetime, and as far as my experience as a city cop goes it usually alcohol related or domestic type of incident, we officers are blessed with the ultimate power of Officer Discretion so more then likely if your acting dumb and we run you and nothing comes back you won't have to worry about being on COPS. But what you see on COPS is just how it is, and growing up in the same city I work in, I have seen my friends literally transform from healthy fun loving types of people to those on COPS =( but I now realize that's life.

The people presented on the show are the type the police commonly contact. Besides, dumb criminals make better entertainment. The contacts that are benign or do not result in an arrest are not generally as exciting television.

criminals are always dumb. that is why they are criminals. you never see a doctor trying to rob a 7-11.

And have you also noticed how many of them live in mobile homes and wear wife beaters? I don't know about you, but I watch COPS to sometimes remind myself that I have a normal life.
