i took Max to the vet and yes after some blood work we found out he has kidney failure, most definately from the recalled food. he was visiting with my mom a week ago and she knows that i give him 2 whiskas packs a day because its his favorite treat.in anticipation of his visit she went to lablaws and picked up some of the presidents choice packages. after she found out PC was on the recall list she checked the dates on the packages and found that what she had was recalled. tomorrow morning he will be going back to the vets for 48hrs of IV treatment. im so upset. i dont know what to do, i feel helpless and im so mad. i love him so much. i just cant believe it.

My cat had this exact same problem. We later found out that she hasn't been eating because of the food we gave her. We used to give her wet food until we heard about the Rat-poisoned wet-food for dogs and cats. That was a very good reason we our cat wasn't eating, and had gotten sick alot. Now that we give her dry food, she'll eat that and not throw it up and is back to normal.

I do not know if you give your cat wet food, but if you are, that may be the most accurate reason why your kitty is not eating and is throwing up. I suggest that you not give this kitty wet food any more, if you were. If you haven't been giving him wet-food, than there might just be something wrong with his internal digestive system or liver.

Get him to the vet immediately if things dont change for your kitty. I really hope everything works out for your cat.

If you fed him any of the canned cat food on recall, that may be the cause. I hate to scare you but please look at the list of recalled cat food posted by Menufoods early today. The recall went into effect late Friday.

This is a section of the news:
"(AP) A major manufacturer of dog and cat food sold under Wal-Mart, Safeway, Kroger and other store brands recalled 60 million containers of wet pet food Friday after reports of kidney failure and deaths. "

An unknown number of cats and dogs suffered kidney failure and about 10 died after eating the affected pet food, Menu Foods said in announcing the North American recall. Product testing has not revealed a link explaining the reported cases of illness and death, the company said. "

“At this juncture, we're not 100 percent sure what's happened,” said Paul Henderson, the company's president and chief executive officer. However, the recalled products were made using wheat gluten purchased from a new supplier, since dropped for another source, spokeswoman Sarah Tuite said. Wheat gluten is a source of protein.

The recall covers the company's “cuts and gravy” style food, which consists of chunks of meat in gravy, sold in cans and small foil pouches between Dec. 3 and March 6 throughout the U.S., Canada and Mexico.

The pet food was sold by stores operated by the Kroger Company, Safeway Inc., Wal-Mart Stores Inc. and PetSmart Inc., among others, Henderson said.

WHAT TO DO:

1. If your cat's food canned food appears in this list, DISCONTINUE right away - but keep the can to show the vet. Only canned cat food and cat food in pouches is affected. Dry kibble or busicuits are apparently safe.

2. The signs of kidney failure are vomiting, lethargy, loss of appetite; changes in urination habits.

3. PLEASE RUSH YOUR CAT TO THE NEAREST emergenct VET NOW!!! Your cat may not be able to waith till tomorrow.

Im also concerned. I have been out of town for the last three weeks and my roomates have been feeding my little one in my absence. She only eats Whiskas soft food and I left 4 boxes of it for her. I have scoured the internet, and the good news is that I have found no recall yet. I would take Max to the vet to make sure. Please let me know what they say as I am very interested in my cat's health.

I still would be worried about the cat food. It was on the news this morning that several other manufacturers are removing their wet food from the shelves just in case. I too use whiskas, and i have thrown it away and stuck primarily to dry for the time being.

Definately take him to the vet, just make sure to let the vet know what kind of food he is eating and if he has been eating or chewing anything usual etc, hope he will be ok!

I'm so sorry to hear that Max is under the weather. Here's hoping he'll be one of the lucky ones with 8 more lives to go.

Yes check the recall on food, and take them him to a vet IMMEDIATELY! It may have to do with the kidneys.

hope this helps!
