Ok, well, it is easy to take a shot at the Holy See. But seriously, in what used to be the largest entity in the world, you would htink you would use your power to intervene in a good way. Like, lets not argue about abortion and euthanasia; let's just go out and save a million kids from starvation by auctioning off some of our artwork.

Then maybe people would actually listen to them.

Considering the Catholic Church is the largest single owner of artwork in the world (and the obvious fact that the museums to whom they would sell said artwork would obviously also make them open to the public) I can feel pretty confident in saying it is kind of greedy not to sell it.

But this is a stupid example anyway, I apologise. The real pretext under which I asked this question was why do the Catholic Church build churches in third-world countries, but not hospitals?

Hey, wolfblayde, ease off! I am neither rich or Christian; but my family still sponsors a child in Peru, and we do what we can for charity. I mean, I am a socialist, so, I don't really advocate extreme wealth anyway.

their "artwork" is shared with millions of people everyday - have you never visited Rome? the Catholic church spends millions, if not billions on various catholic and other non-Catholic charities.

I think your premise a way misguided.

First of all, the Catholic Church still is the largest entity in the world.

Second, abortion and euthanasia are morally wrong under all circumstances in which those things can take place. In the interest of inalienable right to life, it is wroth the argument.

Third, The artwork of which you speak was gifted to the Catholic Church by artisans who's devotion to God inspired such beautiful art. The Church shares this artwork with anyone who wishes to see it themselves. There's nothing inherently wrong with that.

Catholic Charities, feeds millions of starving children every day. The Church can do exactly what you want it to do, and still maintain a gifted art gallery.

Besides, would you be willing to auction off some of your post valuable and treasured possessions to feed starving children?

Practice what you preach. Lead by example, and maybe more people will listen to you.

Pastor Billy says: the truth of it is the Catholic Church has been around 2000 years as the original Church of Christianity. With a 2000 year history the Church has had much time to evangelise and accept donations from supportive patrons it also has had 2000 years in helping the poor, starving and ill a time span much long and dedicated to social welfare than any secular government or colonial power . Catholicism is in fact the largest non-profit organisation already helping the poor. Your question lead one to ask what next after selling off what you request in the deposit of the faith via artwork? Perhaps all Church property would be next and than what? Perhaps all ancient manuscripts, documents and literature and what next? Anti-catholics normally use this line of argument and their purpose is rarely to help the poor. Their desire of course is to erase Catholicism from history.

I think you really should study some statistical facts before making the claim of disgusting priorities.

Jim Baker. TBN. PLT. Benny Hinn. The whole crop of "prosperity" preachers.

Do any of these multi-million dollar Protestant names ring a bell? How about their constant telethons and pledge drives and "Send us your money for this specially blessed Bible or prayer cloth or whatever"?

How about their private jets, beautiful ranches, and expensive clothing and jewelry -- where do you think the money for that comes from? Or better still, where it could be used to do good?

Don't point a finger at the Catholic church because there will be four fingers pointing back at you.

Edit:

You insult my faith from the very opening line of your post, then tell me to ease off when I defend my Church. That's either ironic, hypocritical, or a bit of both on your part, don't you think?

Who the Hell are you to say what the Catholic Church should do with their art work. How many Children have you save today. The catholic Church will save more in one minute than you will save your entire life.

The artwork is not theirs to sell. The artwork belongs to the world and to Rome. And besides that who would have the money to buy these masterpieces? How much do you donate to feed starving children?

I am a Christian but not Catholic. However, they are my Christian brothers/sisters. They do help the poor as I have proof in my city alone. They also offer free healthcare insurance, food banks, shelters and much more.

They are no more disgusting than any other Christian church.

I think Christians need to start listening to the world instead of judging the world.

A religious institution founded on morality and spiritual obedience is intentionally amassing millions of dollars in personal extravagance for the sole cause to attract more followers to amass more millions.

Jesus would not be a Christian today if he knew what Christianity was all about.

Apparantly you know absolutely nothing about Catholic Charities- without which your taxes would skyrocket to pay for all the human services they provide to the poor and disadvantaged.
