Nope. Only people who believe the stereotypes would think it strange. I sing in my church choir, and our pews are filled with a fairly equal number of conservatives and liberals every Sunday. The idea that you have to be conservative to be religious is the product of our "sound bite" culture and has little to do with reality.
People seem to forget that some of the most religious people in our nation's history were the "Jesus freak" hippies in the 60's and 70's.

I was raised to be liberal in almost every sense of the word, and I'm SURE that doesn't shock anyone.

No. I 'm a Gnostic. Gnosticism is a liberal religion. Of course, Jesus was a liberal too. Unfortunately, some people get Jesus confused with ultra-conservative extremist Yahweh from the Old Testament.

Isn't the term liberalism just a socially acceptable way of saying you rebell against the teachings of the bible?
Jesus wasn't liberal. He followed exactly the teachings of His Father!
Why would we expect to be different when following Jesus?
