I have a miniature schnauzer and a pit-bull lab mix. My pit-bull mostly lives outside. I need to find a friend for my miniature schnauzer. We live in a small house and he is very hyper. We are gone most of the day and he is very social. What dog breed would work best? I prefer something about his size but a lot less hyper. I also don't want a dog that I have to get shaved every six weeks.

I went on to Selectsmart.com and entered in what you said, the perfect dog for you would a French Bulldog. I know someone that has a French Bulldog and he is so sweet. Then I went onto yourpurebredpuppy.com and found some information on them, here it is.

* Is short, squat, and chunky
* Is round-headed and short-faced, with large expressive eyes
* Has a short easy-care coat that comes in many colors
* Is usually amiable with everyone
* Doesn't need much exercise
* Doesn't bark much

Some not so great things:
* Stubbornness
* Shedding
* Snorting, snuffling, wheezing, grunting, loud snoring
* Slobbering
* Gassiness (flatulence)
* Slowness to housebreak
* Serious health problems
* High cost

Good luck!

Why does your Pit/Lab mix mostly live outside? And exactly what do you mean you are gone "most of the day"? Dogs are pack animals and need socialization and interaction from their humans. This might be why your Schnauzer is acting so hyper; he's acting out. Before you get another dog, I would try to spend some time with the dogs you already have. Just my $0.02.

Check your local shelter. There are SO many wonderful dogs there just waiting for a home. I've been spending my evenings with the best guy. He's a mix, part Lab, part Basset, part who knows. He's so awesome, I would adopt him if I could have him at my house. I don't think ANY dog should be forced to live outside.

well why dont you get a female dog that is same breed as youre dog so that he have somebody can love him and enjoy playing with him out side and inside all day when youre not home in the morning afternoon. but you should leave alot of foods and alot of fresh water bowls so that if youre going plan to get a new dog you should have the dogs to have something to chew on and drink out in case theyree feeling hot beingin out side in the hot heat sun .

Dashounds are prety small and some have a short coat (depending on the kind). And maybe you should get a older one, they are less hyper

I personally love Maltese. They are easy to train and are very sweet and social. Most are not hyper either. They are non-shedding and if you keep their hair short, they are so easy to keep looking adorable!

how about a small mutt? They are likely to be calmer than a pure bred dog.
