It was rat poison in the wet food. I use Iams dry as well, and I have not read anything negative concerning that variety. My poodle seems fine.

MenuFoods produces food for many different brands. Over forty brands in fact have been affected. Iams is one that has recalled cat and dog foods, no dry foods are affected. If your dog eats canned or pouch food, you should check the PetSmart.com for specifics on what is recalled, or the Iams.com site or any number of news articles now listing the recall sites. AT menufoods, not all specific brands are listed that have been recalled. Like Science Diet is not listed when all of their Savory Cuts line of food for Cats and kittens has been affected.
The info is out there in detail complete with skew numbers to match up to your cans to see if your food is affected.
Seems an undisclosed number of pets have died from renal failure and others are sick. Many are not affected as of yet but the recall is voluntary and preventative. Symptoms of renal failure include lethargy, lack of appetite. If your dog is experiencing this and eating one of the recalled foods you should check with your Vet. If your dog is fine, don't feed him anymore of the food until the recall is lifted if your brand is effected. Retail stores should offer refund for the food. I know Iams is guaranteed so you should be able to change the food if applicable until the cause is sorted out.
I have to say I admire the dog food brands that are listing their foods and recalling them voluntarily as well as the retailers that bothered to provide detailed lists of affected foods like PetSmart did.
It is NOT JUST THE SLICED OR CUT CANNED IAMS FOOD that are recalled so check with the retailer to be sure. Several different Iams canned foods were affected besides the gravy ones.
Seems the retailers have the detailed info you need. Try PetSmart.com

There was something in a few brands of wet dog and cat food, including Iams. I don't remember what exactly was wrong with it but it was just in a recent batch where some toxin or bacteria got into the food supply.

Yes, Iams was one of the affected brands. It's ONLY wet (canned) food, though, so if your dog is eating hard kibble, it should be fine. You can check on the Iams.com website for more information. Nobody knows yet exactly what the problem was with the food, but there have been reports of animals suffering kidney failure.

The last I heard, they did not know what the problem in the food was. go to menufoods.com for more information. IAMS was one of the brands listed, but if you're feeding your dog dry kibble, you're ok.

news states that the wheat gluten that is added to the "moist" canned cat food was poisened.

Menu foods the distributor of 96 different varieties of dog and cat food buy the gluten from a factory in China that make it.

Apparantly they have a rat problem and decided to lay rat poisen on the floor of the factory.

Somehow the poisen got into the gluten and the gluten was added to the food and so on.

read up on it from the website address below

News Flash! The offending culprit is rodent poison & it is only found in canned & foil packages produced by Menu Foods which is marketed under 95 separate brand names! I'm a little foggy about the following, but I seem to recall that it was "cuts &/or gravy" I use only Nutro Ultra & there is no recall there.

They are saying that the Iams dry food is safe right now but be aware of any symptoms of kidney failure or vomiting.

It turned out that it was something used as rat poison in most countries and as a cancer treatment in the U.S. I haven't heard as yet how they think it got into the food, but it was in the canned foods and moist pouches. The dry foods were supposed to be safe.
