Why are beliefs personal? Because they are intricate. It’s not about whether you believe in God or science, it goes deeper than that. There are over a hundred Christian denominations, all believing in God, not to mention the thousands of other religions. And as for science, there are hundreds of different fields of study.

Insulting someone’s beliefs is like calling a mathematician a fruit cake because he’s not an artist, or calling a musician a homo because he is not a politician.

Yes, you are right, it is a simple choice and once that choice is made, God reveals himself to people in a powerful way, one that is impossible to deny and that a person would feel strongly offended by people trying to trample on it. It is very personal especially to those who have an intimate relationship with their creator "God". As far as I am concerned my only purpose in life is my relationship with God and serving him to the best of my ability and beyond. I know what God has done for me and where he has brought me up from and I cannot deny him. It really is serious stuff.

To you it's a simple choice, to other's it's not a simple choice. You have just posed a comment that in itself makes it show how little you know or how little your realize about life. You see staight ahead and see in one dimension, for you it is only one way. You are a good christian, but can't see beyond that, you have no questions, and I guess for you that is good. I only hope that for you as you grow you don't run into a situation where you run into people who ask you questions that you can't answer as it may rock your mere foundation. There is so much more to life, so many questions. Be careful of who you meet and what you seek, you may learn life isn't as simple as you think.

It gets very personal for Christians, becuase Christians come to know that the things they do WILL MAKE THEM END UP AT A VERY BAD PLACE. That is how it starts. Then as they get closer to God they find more about why God loves us. When Christians get to know God they see him as good and creator of the universe etc. It becomes personal when they come to the "truth" about God.

IT is not simply a choice, though. It is creating and growing a very deep and personal relationship with the Creator of all things. It is admitting and accepting that we are frail, sinful people in need of His mercy and grace. It is loving Someone and giving our whole self to Him who has made the ultimate sacrifice for our sins.

Here's an example that might come close: Do you have any family (kids, friends, spouse, etc.)? Would you be willing to die for them? Would you let someone slander, mock or otherwise degrade them in your presence? That is how many Christians often feel but much deeper because their relationship with our Lord and Savior is much deeper.

It is more than a choice, it is intuition. We hear and learn about so many religions in the world and we follow the one that our intuition says it is right. Religion has to do with culture, individual experiences in life, different kinds of studies, self-motivation to follow this or the other, peer pressure, Bible itself, and a million of situations that might "convince" us about what it is right. There is no religion right or wrong when there is sincerity in the person's heart. I am spiritist. I consider myself Christian, because I believe in Jesus Christ, but I see Christians turn themselves in a deffensive mode with me, when I talk about my beliefs. It is sad, but I think some of them just want to show off, or they think they will feel good if they save another soul, I dont know, but it is OK. Peace!

I am going to turn the question around because I am having a hard time making heads or tails of it.

Are you suggesting that "belief" (belief in god, belief in special relativity, belief in "X") is a matter of personal choice? If that is so, would you mind trying to explain why you think that beliefs have this property "of being chosen?"

Suppose, for example, while walking in the rain you met a woman and said, "Fine rain we're having."

"It is not raining," she replied, "this is Tuesday."

"Tuesday," you said, "what is raining got to do with Tuesdays?"

"Well," she replied, "I don't believe in rain on Tuesdays."

"Oh," you say, "you mean you would rather it not rain on Tuesdays."

"No," relied the woman, "I mean I have chosen believe in rain at all on Tuesdays. I choose, however, to believe in rain the other days of the week."

Would such a belief be rational, do you think? Can we make sense of what this woman purports to do: choose to not believe in rain on Tuesdays?

You are right is very much a choice, but one that Christians are being punished for. We are losing our right to speak of our faith. We are sued for it, we are told we can't pray in public places, we are not allow any mention of our faith in schools. My 10 year lod son was told be a teacher that you could not bring his bible to school.

Yet everything from witchcraft. to new age teaching is allowed. You tell me why it is ok for me to lose my rights but don't let anyone touch yours.

Still in the light of all of that i will stand by my faith and really don't care what anyone else thinks. I have made my choose and that is that.

For some reason,God has placed a desire in all Christians heart,to love others. So then because we love people ,we try to get them the very best. The very best I have to give is Jesus. No matter how ugly, hateful, mean, evil you are .We Christians still pray for your soul.
Jesus does love you.<><
