My Windows XP Media Center Edition keeps freezing up and crashing on me and so after running ChkDisk and the problems kept recurring I want to reinstall XP. I have my one 120 Gig HDD in two partitions and I want to just format the one with XP on it. Is that possible or will the whole HDD format?

Formatting one partition will not affect the other.

yeah u can just redo that partition, when it comes to the screen where you can delete/create partitions just HIT ENTER on the original XP instal partition. ALL widows data and registrywill be deleted, all personal data will stay, remember make sure u have ur drivers backed up :p

You can format part of the drive with your boot partition and leave the remainder alone. I've done and if fact still have an unformated section still on one of my disks on my hard drive.
You can always go back and format later by right clicking "my computer" manage, the disk management. select the unformatted section and right click, create new partition. Go from there.

Yes when you are doing the XP install just delete it and then recreate a new partition.

Yes, but you have to boot from another to do it. I.e. boot from a windows xp cd or slave the drive to another computer.
