It depends on your personal taste. White German Shepherd are not permitted under the breed standard, so you would need to scrutinize a white GSD breeder even more than usual.

Either way, be sure to ONLY use a responsible breeder as GSDs can have MASSIVE health problems that stem from poor breeding.

I think that all Shepherds (and dogs for that matter) can be equally as great.

That said, the white shepherds can not be shown in dog shows.

Other than that, get which ever dog you get along with best and that has a nice, even demeanor.

I think the coloring of German Sheperds is a personal preference... I have always liked the tri-colored ones, and I own one. I think its b/c everybody can readily identify him as a German Shepherd whereas the solid white and black ones are harder to ID.

Good Luck!

My White German Shepherd is now 14 years old. She has been and is an incredible dog. Very intelligent, gentle, loving and protective. She is a very popular dog wherever we go.

We were very lucky to find her at a shelter (she was 1 year old) she only spent one night there! She was originally owned by an older couple that found themselves too ill to care for her. The gentleman trained police dogs and this was his pet. For years we have been discovering (by her actions) more about the special training this dog has received.

Be careful with any color German shepherd you chose this breed is prone to hip problems. Feed good quality food. Train out food aggression. Don't play tug. Exercise is important, my dog loves Frisbee but my vet suggested keeping the Frisbee low to avoid jumping that could cause hip problems. My dog has excellent hips.

Shepherds shed all the time!
Good luck in your choice.

At present I have a white shepherd that I love dearly, she is smart, loyal, loving and just all around good dog. In the past I had a brown/black mix and she too was an excellent dog. They will just die for you if you love them too. I have only had these 2 females but I am totally smitten with them. To me they are all good, the color is just an aside. And oh yes, I only adopt pets from the animal shelter in my town, I don't need papers, I just need love and protection. Good luck if you are thinking of getting one of these dogs.

A particular coloration only changes the aesthetical properties of a gsd. What you need to be scrutinizing is the lines behind the dog. If you do proper research into the pedigrees behind a dog, you will have much better luck getting a dog that is best for you.
