"Hey is for horses" what does that mean??? Is it bad to say hey whatsup in school, do people get offended?

I used to hear this all the time as a child. It's actually "hay" instead of "hey" because they are homophones. People don't usually get offended, but if you go "wuzzup" it may be taken as mimicking in a racially insensitive way.

Lot's of people say hey and there is nothing wrong with it. My brother says 'hey is for horses' to sometimes if I say hey. When he says it he means it as a joke or a pun. So did he look offended to you? Otherwise he was probably just joking.

well hay is for livestock yes . but this guy was just being funny . sarcastic or a know it all . this saying hey is the normal thing to do very normal . you carry on with your life and forget about this event forever its not worth thought
