What does a woman absolutely LOVE? A mystery. Nice guys are too available. They're too sweet, they're too affectionate, they're too NICE. Bad guys, on the other hand, are always late, are inconsiderate and selfish, and are, unfortunately, a mystery.... and we looove solving those. Women are curious (the way we were made, scuzi) and poking and prodding and figuring a guy out are one of our favourite passtimes. Now, pertaining to your question, bad guys get the girls in the beggining, but lose out (at least with SMART girls) in the end. Ultimately, we're not stupid. After a decade (bad-guy stage is usually between 15 to 30 years old, somewhere in there we fall for at least one) we get annoyed and bored of being treated like dirt, and we start looking for someone a little more secure, someone that genuinely cares about us. Someone that makes us feel loved, basically. So, in any case, do not despair, keep being a nice guy, and wait it out. (I love this kind of question, that's why the answer is so long) =)

Because some girls are not used to being treated good. When they see a good guy, they get scared of that fact of being respected and treated kindly. So they go for the guys like you described. They end up regreting it anyways.
Nice guys are the best, but they do need to be more out there. They are so respectful that they're quiet because they don't want to be rude. Some times im on the train and the rude guys always approach me, which i hate. The handsome good guys just smile and look away. Sometimes i wish they would at least say hi sometimes.

It's because the selfish rude and inconsiderate guys are always the hottest things on the map and humans use their eyes before anything else! That's probably why some of the best food isn't eaten!

Girls are attracted to these guys for reasons unknown, I can only speculate, here goes....
The selfish part of the guy translate into his in need, and girls nurture, it's instinct.
Rude is like a child that doesn't know any better, again mother instinct to the rescue.
Inconsiderate is I think the worst of all because when she's done the best she could to make him decent, he does not appreciate what she's done, giving her a feeling of faller, and she'll stay there
trying to fix something she didn't brake indefinitely.
Be the nice guy but also stay in tune with your inner self.

Same goes for guys. How come a lot of cool guys like the rude, selfish girls and usually won't talk to the nice ones?

Not all girls like bad guys, but I think, the reasons behind that are these: the girl wants to feel secure. The guy has this not-so-good image, so many will be scared to hurt his girl. And the girl will always be assured that her guy will fight for her. Second, the girl might want to change the guy. She wants to be of help in unwinding the guy, and does touching the guy's life in return. The girl will always be remembered. And lastly, we girls tend to look for a nice guy, but a bad dude will be a challenge. We don't want someone who just says yes to whatever we say, and we don't want someone who's always sweet and understanding. With a rude guy, there will be exchange of views. And that's the advantages of bad over nice guys. =)

I am rare. I married the nicest, kindest, gentlest man I could find after 29 yoa.
I am very happy with my choice.
But be careful.
Girls do like guys who are confident, not those who worry about other guys.

one word: confidence.
Confidence in men and women is very sexy. The selfish, rude and inconsiderate guys exhude self confidence and women are attracted to them like magnets.
Frankly, I often don't even NOTICE a guy until he loses his temper somehow. How he handles a crisis is important to me and how he loses control. Nice guys are noticed because they tend to be invisible or seemingly weak. It's tough to be a sensitive male with a strong, confident personality. I think we used to call that type the "strong and silent type".

I have no patience for selfish, rude and inconsiderate guys anymore. I want a nice guy with many interests, someone confident, and someone who will love me but not smother me.
