Some poeple have it as a rule, some people don't. If I see the family members take off their shoes then I take mine off too.Otherwise I leave them on. You aren't supposed to ask your visitors to take off their shoes since you're entertaining them you are supposed to make them feel comfortable.

I don't think there is any rule about shoes on or shoes off at a good friend's house. That is unless your friend is Japanese. If your friend is Japanese, then the shoes come off. However, if your friend is Caucasian, I would say that if you are good friends and you want to take your shoes off there really is no rule that says it is totally offensive to take your shoes off. However, try and make sure that if you are wearing socks, see that they match or that they don't have huge holes in them. Also try and have clean feet. But, I've never seen it as a problem removing my shoes at my friend's homes. It's better to remove your shoes if you want to put your feet up on the couch.

Yes, I always take my shoes off at my home and when I'm visiting friends. I think everyone should go in their stocking feet around the house. It is comfortable and it keeps the floor clean. Even when I visit friends who do not have a shoes-off rule, I am in my socks as soon as I walk in the door.

I think it depends.

I have friends where they really do not care. I could wear them or not wear them and its ok.

I have other friends where you can wear them indoors and its not a problem but there are certain rooms you cannot go in with your shoes on.

I also have a small group of friends that insist I take them off.

In my own house, I really could care less. I usually never wear shoes in my own house. I don't take them off when I come in the door. Usually after I am settled and I am going to sit down. I do not usually put them back on unless I need to go outside or if I am leaving.

I do have a rule that SUPPOSELY exists when cute girls are invited over. Thats only because I want to con them into taking of their shoes so I can see their feet. If the girl is really gullible and is wearing socks, there is also a no sock rule too. Hey, you wanted honesty, here it is.

I never wear any shoes in the first place! I do this just because I like it; it's very uncommon here for people to ask guests to take their shoes off when coming in, most people I know don't even take their own shoes off in their own home. If I do know someone wants their guests to take their shoes off to keep the dirt out, I'll usually use something like baby wipes to clean my bare feet too, but I can't really recall the last time I did that... as I said, everyone here (Netherlands) just comes in with outside footwear.

If it is a rule at their house, yes, take them off. Also see what your friend does. It's probably better to take them off to prevent making a mess with your dirty shoes.

Yep, I take them off whether it's the rule or not. It's good to air out your doors, and reduces the dirt tracked through tha house. I drives me crazy when people don't take off their shoes at my house. Especially when it's snowy or muddy outside.

yes, almost all chinese people always take the shoes upon entering a house. The only shoes we wear inside the house are house slippers.
