I've been called babe, baby, lover, sweetie, sweetheart, huni sexy, handsome and papi (yeah, I was surprised at that one too). I prefer handsome, disliked huni (sounds like you're married)
I would say it depends on the guy, whatever you feel comfortable calling him, as long as the pet name doesn't make him angry or he feels insecure about it, then just make one up.

you could say babe or baby for them too... or handsome... haha i was surprised at how much my boyfriend liked to be called hansome. have you ever had a guy say you were beautiful and it sounded so much nicer than... you're sexy! haha its the same thing. hmmm... you could also just make up a nickname that has something to do with you and that guy... that would make sense to you. just call him some different things and watch his facial expressions to see what he thinks of it! good luck! ;D

Baby, precious, sweetie pie. Most guys like to be babied, as most guys are big babies at heart. One guy I used to date adored being called the nickname of one of his favorite actors. Did his mother have a pet name for him? If you are close to her, talk to her, but BEFORE you use HER pet name for him, make sure you ask her permission. Hope this helps! :)
