I should not even attempt to answer this! There are a lot of different terriers, but a pit bull and bull terrier? Pit Bull isn't even an AKC registered breed! If you are not familiar with owning a dog, start out with something else. I personally own a Staffordshire/ rotti mix and he is wonderful. I have children, and he hasn't eaten any people, contrary to popular opinion. How can you judge a breed if you never owned one? I don't prefer Golden Retrievers, but I'm not going to tell everyone not to buy one!

neither (and a bull terrier is not a pitbull). The reason I say neither is because rotties and pits are a one owner dog and not a child owner either. I'm not saying they are bad dogs they are actually a couple of my favorite the thing is they are very headstrong dogs and a person has to be able to control these types of dogs and a child cannot and they also aren't very tolerant of children either, the best dogs for a young child is either a boxer (they are excellent with children) or a lab.

a bull terrier is a completely different breed from a pit bull. a bull terrier has a flat face. (the target dog or the chico dog). personally i think a rottweiler that u get as a puppy would be better for a child than a pit.

Either, provided they have a good temperament!
Do not listen to some of the previous posters - they are what I call dog breed racists. Pits and Rotties are excellent with children as long as they have been properly socialized. I myself have a Pit mix who is THE SWEETEST with all people and children, newborns even. And I grew up with a Rottie/Doberman mix.
To all the breed racists out there, give this link a vist: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mGairk18L8g

I wouldn't have neither of these breeds. I don't trust them. As for the pit bulls never turning on their owners, just a couple weeks ago there was the story in the paper about the woman playing with her children and their dog (not someone else's) attacked one of the children. If it hadn't have been for the mother's quick thinking where she was able to get the children out of the room the dog would have killed the child. In the story the mother said the dog had never tried to be agressive before. As for rottwellers I had a personal encounter from one that tried to attack me on several occasions. Before you get either you may want to check the laws in your town to make sure you don't have to carry extra insurance on these dogs. Around here if you have either breed you have to have extra insurance, to help cover medical bills if it does bite someone. Maybe some of them are ok but I'm not getting one because with my luck I would end up with the worst one in the bunch, lol. Do some research and do your homework to decide for yourself.

Either could make a great pet. It depends on their individual personalities, and how they were raised. I recently adopted a 1 year old pit bull from the Human Society, and she has been the Best dog!! I love her to death, she is very well behaved.

For those of your who are ignorant and don't know anything about Rottweilers. Have one before you judge. I have been around Rottweilers for 10 years. My Father-in-law has been a breeder for 30 years. My daughter has been around them since she was a infant. These dogs are no dangerous than any other "yippy" dog. They are gentle, kind and very loving and loyal to their owners.People who own Rottweilers should properly train them. People make Rottweilers have bad reputations. Be a responsible pet owner, no matter what breed of dog you choose.
