Question

What does everyone think about child molesters and what do you think should be done? I have heard so many things about rehabilitation. Do you think these sick people can be rehabilitated? Or do you think something more drastic should be done to them? In my opinion anyone who harms a child should face the death penalty, if we place them in prison the chances of them coming out alive are almost zero since a lot of prisoners don't like those type of people so the death penalty seems more fitting and they sure as hell shouldn't be released into our neighborhoods.

And I mean harm a child as in taking something from them that is their's like having sex with them or touching them inappropriately.

If this is a ""MENTAL ISSUE" than why do they put these people in prison for years on end or put them on death row? I DO NOT believe that it is a Mental Issue I believe that this is a word for agencies to make it seem like they can't make logical choices for themselves. PLEASE when will we start making these people own up for their own mistakes and stop saying things like they have mental health issues, c'mon.

I'M TALKING ABOUT CHILD MOLESTATION SUCH AS 2 YR OLDS; 5 YR OLDS; 11 YR OLDS; 14 YR OLDS AND SO ON WITH A MAN OR WOMAN WHO KNOW THAT IT IS UNACCEPTABLE TO TOUCH OR HARM A CHILD SEXUALLY. MOST CHILDREN LOOK UP TO ADULTS AND SEE THEM AS SOMETHING SAFE. THERE IS NO EXCUSE FOR DOING THIS TO OUR CHILDREN OR EVEN ADULTS!

they have a disease. I'm a mental health counselor and I do not beleive from my studies and experience that they can be rehabilitated. I think they should make them wear tracking devices at all times. They are dangeroous to society.

I think it depends on what some of the factors of the child molestation are.

If it's non-violent, with a post-pubescent teen, and is otherwise consensual, I think the offender can probably be rehabilitated and turned loose (safely) back into society because the issue is selecting a more appropriate but otherwise sexually mature human being.

If force is used, or the victim is sexually immature, there are a lot more issues, especially considering the victim is someone who essentially can't put up a credible resistance or make a rational decision.

In the second case, I would be for measures that marked them obviously and segregated them from their potential victims permanently. If not inpatient or prison, some other location away from children like a work colony some place out of the way. (After appropriate judicial punishment, of course, especially for related crimes like murder and kidnapping.)

I say we should put them all on an island out in the middle of
nowhere. Let them all live together. But make them work
the land every day, hard labour. And very strict rules and
limitations, limited access to things. Depending on their
crime and the likely hood of them repeatedly offending.....
should fit their crime. Sometimes men who molest their
family members, dont do it again, it could be an isolated
incident. Not very often is this the case, but it does happen.
And some form of tx may be helpful...and they are useful,
productive members of society. But, that is the exception.
Most child molesters have many victims...those are the ones
who should be locked up for life...because they will not stop.
Most cannot be treated. Like I said , The punishment should
fit the crime.

I don't think that child molesters can be rehabilitated. I usually don't feel this way about people, but child molesters do not deserve to live. I hate to think what children feel and go through when they are molested, and then the ones who are killed by their molesters? It's just too horrible to fathom. Some places are allowing child molesters to just run free, thinking that the sex offender registries actually do something to protect our children. Child molesters do not deserve freedom and "second chances." They need to never see the light of day again.

My understanding is that child molestation is NOT something that can ever be cured, so if that is true, then really these people almost have no control over what they do, which presents a real dilemma as you pointed out. There is no drug that cures this, or psychotherapy. I think it is part of your brain gone bad. They need to be put away and locked up.. Call it prison or whatever, but they are just as dangerous coming out as they were going in. Why else does the Government publish a list of convicted sex offenders and publish their addresses....it's so we can protect ourselves!

I assume that you are talking about real molestation, and not about the kid who is 18 and has sex with his girlfriend who isn't 16 yet. Statuatory rape sort of thing.

But, like that monster who snatched Jessica Lunsford out of her bed, kidnapped, kept her at his house, raped and killed her....... Now, I am glad that he got the death penalty.

And I don't for one minute think that because he colored pictures thru his trial makes him retarded. That was an ACT!

No, they CAN'T be rehabilitated!

My husband said he'd like that guy to be put into prison for life, and put into the general population of the prison, NOT in isolation. Let the other guys in there settle his hash! They would, in a hurry! Look how long Jeffry Dahlmer lasted in there!

We have several sex offenders in the little town I live in, according to the registry. Scares me! I try really hard to keep my grandkids safe.

I anyone guilty of child molestation should be taken to the hottest dessert, tied to a tree. Then he should have his eyelids removed, pulled each fingernail and toenail off one by one, cut out his tongue and left to die.

That way we know they will never return to our neighborhoods to violate any more children and I am sure it would deter other thinking of molesting children.

its impossible for them to be rehabilitated
its just like gays, you cant rehabilitate someone from being gay, so you cant do it with pedophiles and child molesters
they should just be killed or something, i mean why make them rot in prison, just get rid of em, society has no need for them, and we can use old prisons that arent in use to be nocked down and houses built on them
