I hope you have thought this out very carefully. I just want to throw out some things for you to consider. Do it for the right reasons, like you, your family and his can't afford a wedding...whatever your good reasons are. Please don't do it to avoid family conflicts, i.e. over guests, what kind of reception, etc. If your parents (and his) don't like the one you love you should not elope. Your marriage will be doomed without their being at least civil. Be very sure you won't be disappointed in time to come when you don't have family or friends around to have memories with. I think all of us (woman and men) would like to have avoided the stress but it was all worth it in the long run. Small home garden weddings are nice and inexpensive, too, if its money. Maybe you want to put the money towards a nice honeymoon and thus the eloping. Not a bad idea, if so. "Eloping" meant to go away and get married and no body would know until you got back. It sure hurt parents! Perhaps you might considering telling them ahead of time. If you do elope I hope you have a 'reception/shower' to congratulate you --- and to get gifts!! LOL Good luck and I do wish you a happy marriage!

The state of Ohio doesn't have a hold (wait time) on marriage licenses. You get the license about 20 minutes after you apply for it. In Arizona, you get the license right then, and generally can get married immediately (or same day) if you go through a justice of the peace (that's what I did, in Phoenix). I don't know how much it costs in Ohio, but in Phoenix, it's $50 for the marriage license and $50 to the justice of the peace. Make sure, no matter where you go, that you have 2 witnesses to sign for you. Good luck and congrats!

It really depends upon where you live & how far you're both actually willing to travel for such a romantic yet daring endeavor.
If you live on the East Coast, how about a nice romantic inn or Bed&Breakfast somewhere around New England, like Vermont, or even all the way up in Canada, like Québec maybe?
Or if you live on the West Coast, have you ever taken a trip around Washington State or in the Rockies all the way up to British Colombia Canada?
It's beautiful up there (I've been there a few times myself) & oh so romantic...
That's where I would go if I was eloping with my fiancé!
Good luck to both of you!
P.S. I assume you live in the U.S.?
P.S. #2: Is it just going to be the two of you, I gather?
P.S. #3: If you live in the Midwest, you're on your own!

I totally eloped, well sort of... we pre-planned getting married on our own in Las Vegas.
It was the Best thing I ever did and I highly recommend the Monte Carlo Casino & Resort.
We had so much fun, it was stress free, and we didn't kill ourselves with debt.
IT WAS THE BEST THING WE EVER DECIDED TO DO!!!
(it is your day, enjoy it for what you want it to be, not what everone else wants... you can't make everyone happy)

Elope in hawaii, honeymoon and elopement in one!
Otherwise I recommend San Antonio, beautiful city with the riverwalk, good (warm) weather, lots of stuff to do. According to twain, its one of the 4 most unique cities in America, because of blending of culture, mexican, southern, southwest.
Or new orleans.
Or throw a dart at a map and go wherever you end up!

I hope you aren't eloping to avoid scrutiny on getting married. If so, you may regret your reasons later.

Good for you! Could you please talk to my daughter? If near Niagara Falls, that's a nice place to go, or Bar Harbor , Maine. Maybe Cape Cod.
