Alright, just completely ignore the message posted above mine: it's utterly ridiculous. Movies are never a good first date because you don't get to talk at all.
I'm rather a bit older than you, but in highschool, and I remember my first date with my boyfriend. He asked me to Borders (a book/music/coffee/music shop) where we sat and got to know each other. It was wonderful, and we both enjoyed spending the time together.
So, try Borders or Barnes and Nobles. Coffee is roughly two dollars apiece, and besides that, it's basically a free date. Try it; it works.

Hey Jake,
My name is Brian, and I am 44 years old, and I still have some of the same questions, but I will try and provide the best advice that I can.
Dating, especially in younger years can be difficult, but find something where you can do something that you would enjoy, and she might enjoy as well.
You aren't really at an age where you are ready to make a long term commitment, and while there is always the interest in being romantically involved, don't rush into the romance.
I don't know where you live, or what sort of things there are to do around your town, but maybe a cheap movie, or play. Maybe some sort of school event.
Find something you can do where you can talk with her, and find out about her interests.
I don't know if that helps, but that is my best advice based on my years of experience.

Oh you loser; 40 dollars! Just go to the movies, it's the cheapest place I know of. Or if you don't feel like going to the movies ask her to a school dance or maybe to the mall girls love that (don't buy her anything if you go to the mall: OK. just buy her a smoothie and that's it).
Welcome to Yahoo!Answers I am the welcoming committee.

If you're around 12 years old, you are WAY too young to be doing anything with a girl at all. Dude, you've got your whole life ahead of you. Don't do anything stupid. Go to the mall or movies with a GROUP of friends. How about Chuck E Cheese?

Take her to the movies. Get her some snacks and have a fun time. I don't think you should take her to gory movies as 6th graders though. Take her to a movie that you both will enjoy! :) good luck!

You could take her to the movies (tickets aren't that expensive). Some girls wouldn't even mind if you guys just had a little walk in the park or something.
