I had Linux on my computer with Windows 98 on it and I decided that I didn't like it that much. So I decided to put the original OS on the computer, Windows 98. I inserted the disk at the start up and it did the whole recovery process. Now when I start the computer, it says no operating system found. So I tried doing a recovery again, and it still didn't work. What should I do?

you are going to have to fdisk and reformat, and reinstall it all!

The easist way to handle this is to find the make and model # of your hard drive, Western Digital, Maxtor, etc. Go to there website and download there harddrive utilities software, usually will fit on a floppy disk, boot from this disk and do a low level format. This will remove any and all information pretaining to the previsous OS includeing the boot sector. In some cases the utilities will also allow you to fdisk and format. However if you have a 98 boot disk I would suggest you try to fdisk and reformat with it first.

Firstly you put the installation CD in (you have to start your computer first to enable the CD drive to move). Then restart the computer. To a certain extent, the screen will show 'Push any key to boot from CD' and you have to click on any key, either Enter or Spacebar, it doesn't matter. Then wait for the installation files to be copied onto your computer. It does this automatically, so don't worry. Then it will display the drives where you can install your OS. Usually people do it on C drive. But firstly you have to Delete the C drive to erase whatever OS that have been on the C drive. Then you have to create it back. All of this can be done by following the instruction on the screen. Then follow the instruction to install the OS on the C drive. For your information, OS means Operating System, like in your case, Windows 98.

It may simply be that your master boot record is messed up. I haven't done this in a while, but if you boot off of floppy and get to a DOS prompt, try doing an fdisk. In XP you'd boot off the CD and go into the Repair Console and do it, and I'm not sure exactly what the equivalent would be under 98.

Mmmk, once you burn it off (after downloading, of direction) burn it as an "photograph" . Your burning utility could have some thing worded like that. positioned the cd in the tray and restart. you ought to might desire to tell it as nicely from the cd (it is on your bios, precise in the open. can no longer omit it) it is going to ask you in case you prefer to place in, run stay, and a few thing else (do no longer keep in mind) choose set up and permit her circulate. it is notably undemanding, quite. one ingredient in spite of the shown fact that, final I keep in mind, Ubuntu demands countless supplies like RAM, cpu velocity, HD area, and so on. If I keep in mind wisely, a L433C in basic terms has like 4 hundred-500 mhz on the processor and not countless RAM. I quite have a computing device right here that has a six hundred mhz processor and 128 RAM and after burning countless Linux distros i discovered that "Zenwalk" works perfect for me. maximum of them even have replace classes which will locate despite application you ought to think of of. frequently called "apt-get" or "pkg-get" (it is, in case you do hook it as much as the internet) so some distance as a observe processor, maximum distros the two have open place of work or Abiword already put in with the OS. I dunno approximately burning Open place of work, yet I had a female pal that did, so there's a fashion. stable good fortune!

You might have to format the drive, which would erase everything on the drive, and install Windows '98 from scratch.

Sorry, but I think you're stuck with linux (it is better than win 98, anyways). You could have a defected CD (or floppy, i don't know), or CD drive, but i don't know.
