You may transmit salmonella from chicken to steak. If you cook steak thoroughly its not an issue but I wouldnt marinate steak with chicken & cook the steak only to rare.

No, you wouldn't be "cross-contaminating." If you don't trust your chicken any more than that, you shouldn't be serving it whether it was marinated with the steak or not. Another concern I would have is for those people who don't eat red meat. That the chicken was "tainted" with the beef, might be enough for them to not eat it. If you have no discriminating eaters, then you're fine.

Well, if you don't mind having the chicken flavor on the beef and the beef flavor on the chicken, of course you can. As long as the marinade is the same for both, and it's not a really chicken marinade or a really beef marinade. I personally prefer not to, but you it's not like it'll ruin the meat.

She's probably right, but personally, I'm doubtful. But listen to your conscience. The poultry and the meat might end up having similar flaovors because of the marinating.

If you cook them both to the proper internal temperature you should be fine. If you like your steak less than well done, marinate it separately.

If you eat the steak well done, then it should be ok. If you eat your steak medium rare, like I do, DON'T do it.
