I'd want both. But most importantly, I'd want them to help me fix the situation, b/c the other stuff is pointless if they can't invest themselves in the relationship enough to be motivated to offer some sort of an opinion on a fix.

Someone to listen and not judge. But save the sympathy. If that person can discuss a situation, they most likely came to terms with it and do not need a hug. Unless it was something recent and was emotional painful.

I would think a hug, you do not have to say anything, but at times if I talk about stuff that are hurtfull and at the same time the person I'm talking is hurting me, then I do not want a hug from that person, because he is hurting me.

I like the hugging part it would be better for me to open up and maybe get advise if they had been through it or something similar but the hug tell you even if i haven't been there i'd hurt like that too

Me personally I just want the person that i am telling the situation to to accept it and understand it, and then to just accept me for me. I don't need to hear I'm sorry or get a hug just for them to be there and to accept me for me, not to turn there back on me and change there feelings towards me. I do accept hugs from my loved ones and I do hug people who share there problems with me because I am a very easy person to talk to, but i need to be accepted for ME.

I told the guy I really love about something tragic that happened in a relationship with a guy the past monday. (We aren't together)
He patted me on the knee and said it would be okay. That's all that pleases me.

It all depends on the tragedy. Usually it really bothers me if someone hugs me unless it is really upsetting to me then a hug is nice.

Just a listener. If I am talking about stuff like that, I don't want to be touched.
