Indeed:

Chose a cell
In the top menus click Insert
Click symbols

In the recently used bar - at the bottom - there will be a celcius symbol. Sadly if it is not there you will need to search the entire list. Then simply click insert and you are done.

You can also use the alt code :

Alt + 0176 to produce the symbol

Example : °

Why would I get a thumbs down when this is the correct method.

Moose did answer the question correctly.

(I'm not the one who gave Moose a thumbs down.)

However, the Alt keys only work on the number pad, hold down Alt and press 0176 on the number pad. If you don't have a number pad (i.e. laptops usually don't) and are having difficulties finding the symbol you can cheat. Type a small "o", highlight it and select Font and check the Superscript box (this works in 2007 - not sure if superscript is available in 2003).

Yes.
You can do like this:
Insert --> Symbols --> Select Degree sign (locaton 176 in ASCII) --> Insert.
When you known the code of Degree sign in ASCII you can only hold ALT key and type 0176. That all.
Good luck
