hiking boots are best

you need to have a good strong sole with good grip and also ankle support

you dont say what u are doing or where/ terrain etc. the goretex/ waterproof canvas ones are good, but dont last as long as leather

if you dont have these or dont want the weight of these (tho there are light weight ones about)

get 'walking' trainers, these have a good chunky sole and grip

make sure whatever you but is really comfortable and wear them in before you buy. buying from a brand that makes walking boots is worthit - they know their stuff rather than fashion brands or trainers for other sports

go to an outdoor sports shop and ask about - really the brand will be whatever fits your feet. my feet suit salomon shoes and boots and ive been really happy with those. berghaus are another good brand but i wouldnt buy because they are too wide for my feet

think needs not brand when you buy. most outdoor sports shops will have a slope in their shoe department - you need to walk up and down this to see if your feet slip in the shoes - if they do - don't buy

this is important - no point testing shoes on the flat that you will be wearing going up and down hills

also ask about grip in wet/dry/rocky sandy conditions - they all vary - depends on your needs again

if you are only doing a few days walking in warm weather - then the sport sandals (teva-type) are an option too

hope this helps and doenst confuse you more

the guy on the save did not know what he replaced into speaking about. severe ankle boots are both for mountain mountaineering and backpacking. in my view, the in undemanding words time i take advantage of boots is at the same time as i'm mountain mountaineering. some thing else of the time i take advantage of trekking shoes or path runners. I even went rim to rim in the Grand Canyon in Sandals. you want to study the execs and cons of each. Boots: the execs are that they do grant added ankle help, that's major because injuring your ankle in a the middle of nowhere South united states is not any exciting. The cons are that they are heavier and a lot less tender. In my journey, you're more beneficial likely to get blisters in a boot than a shoe. shoes: shoes are lighter and more beneficial tender. you may do more beneficial miles in a path runner than a heavy boot. The cons are so that you may pay interest to the position you step because a rolled ankle may reason an harm. i'd say it comes all the way down to how a lot you're wearing. once you've a 40 pound %. with all of your equipment, you should positioned on boots for the more beneficial help. if you're in undemanding words taking an afternoon %. with water, jacket, and a digicam, follow shoes. you'd be more beneficial tender.
