A nice cordless drill comes in handy, hammer, nails, screws, bolts, falt head and phillips screw drivers, wire cutters and strippers, roofing knife a level, this should be more than enough for what you will need, also don't forget a good fire extinguisher for the kitchen and fire alarms, know these aren't tools but every home should have them..and don't forget the ever useful roll of duct tape and a set of open end wrenches, these come in handy for some plumbing repairs.....also a roll of electrical tape. These are pretty basic depending on what types of repairs you think you can handle I had two good teachers in my family, my grandfather was a plumber and my father was a electrician so I can handle the basic stuff. Good luck and enjoy your new home....also a good putty knife and a nice ladder...

Get a package with an assortment of nails and screws to have around when you need one; it's also good to have some simple wall-anchors for hanging heavy stuff without tearing a hole in your sheet rock. Also, get some pliers, preferably two or three sizes; one of them should be a pair of "needle-nosed" pliers. Be sure that you have both flat-head and Phillips-head screwdrivers (a couple of sizes of each); in addition, you might want to get a small set of Allen wrenches (the six-sided things). A hand-saw or simple hand-held jig saw is a good thing to have; also a small cordless drill that won't take your arm off is really nice to have around. A tape measure is an absolute must; you might also want to get a small level. A small can of spackle (to cover up small holes in sheet rock) is convenient to have; and duct tape can be used for all kinds of things; also get a roll of electrician's tape. A box cutter or similar knife gets a lot of use around my house, too. A good step-ladder is invaluable; pay enough that you get one that is SAFE to stand on, and don't stand on the top rung.
Last, but by no means least, get a tool box, so you'll be able to keep track of it all!

There are a lot of home owner tool kits. I like the one from Sears (link below) these are good starter kits for you to add to as finances and needs arrive. Watch for sales and get a good cordless screwdriver its been my experience to try to get the best tools you can afford at the time they usually last longer and work better also pick up a good book on home repairs there is allot that you can do yourself and not pay someone to do use the savings to get more tools. When you are not sure go to your local home store and ask they will help or post here for information.
Good luck and have fun with your new home

Phillips and flathead screwdrivers, a cordless screwdriver/drill combo, usually they come with assorted bits, needlenose and regular pliers, vise grips, duct tape, WD-40, gloves, a flashlight, a hammer, electrical tape, super glue, an assortment of nails and screws, and a little hacksaw, and some utility knives/boxcutters, and that ought to pretty well do you.
