That is true only if you use common sense in your splurging.
Let's say for instance that you are on a low carb diet, it is OK once a week to go ahead and splurge with a piece of cake, or an ice cream. But it is NOT OK to eat 4 or 5 pieces of cake, twice a week. Got it? Moderation in everything is the key.
Be selective when you splurge, don't waist it in cheap carbs, try to have complex carbs, such as pasta made of whole wheat, chocolate sweetened with alcohol, etc...
