As an atheist, I hear so many people saying they have "experienced" God which, honestly, sounds silly to me.
So I want to know, EXACTLY, what it was that occurred that could not have been explained as anything OTHER THAN a god or supernatual deity. Not good timing, not a natural phenomenon, not good medical skills or hallucinations or dreams.. but GOD.

So, if you have ever had a personal experience with God, or Jesus (please no tortilla-stories), or any other supernatural being, can you please tell me EXACTLY what happened?

Thank you, and be descriptive.

Lots of thanks to the people who wrote "I had an experience but I won't tell you because it would never make any sense."
How can a skeptic become a believer when you refuse to divulge what enforced your beliefs to begin with?

Several years ago I had an unusual experience concerning an uncle, a distant relative who lived over a thousand miles away.

While driving my car I suddenly felt the unmistakable presence of this relative that I hardly even knew. He was more like someone I had heard about than someone I knew. It was very strange; it felt as though I was momentarily lifted right out of my physical body. I seemed to be suspended somehow beyond space and time, bathed in a love so intense It felt like I could have just disappear into it at any moment if It would have let me. It only lasted for a few seconds, but it seemed to last forever at the same time. I realize how crazy this must sound. The experience was so strong that at first I was afraid I was loosing my grip on reality. I finally managed to chalk it up to an over active imagination.

Three days later I got a call from my aunt telling me that this uncle we are talking about had gone into a coma and died the day I had the experience. It felt like ice water had been poured down my back when she told me this. I had lost any real ideas of God or faith and had become somewhat of an atheist. Needless to say this experience caused me to rethink some of the conclusions I had come to.

I feel blessed to now understand that even in our darkest confusion something loves us so much that it went out of its way to assist me and bring me back to a state of absolute certainty about Gods love for us.
During the experience it seemed like there was a vast amount of information that I was somehow allowed access to. One thing that I came away from this experience understanding beyond any shadow of a doubt was that any Idea that God is unhappy with us or would judge or allow us to be punished for any reason is simply impossible.

I can’t explain the love I felt with words. They simply don’t make words big enough or complete enough to do this. The only way I can begin to convey this love to you is to say that there was simply nothing else there. Nothing but love. No hint of judgment, no displeasure of any sort. It is as though God sees us as being as perfect as we were the day we were created. It is only in our confused idea of ourselves that we seem to have changed.

I hope this is of some help to you. Good luck. Love and blessings.

Your brother don

Experiencing God really lies in the faith. First and basic requisite is to believe that God does exist, and that He is the creator of all things visible and invisible. The other requisites really depends on which religion you embrace. For Chrisitians, who follow the teachings of Jesus, we believe that God is all knowing and knows everything about us including those which we keep in our hearts. He is a God who loves us even though we oftentimes do not follow His commandments: 1) love God with all our hearts, with all our strength, with all our mind: and 2) love our fellowmen as we love ourselves. These 2 really encompasses all the 10 commandments given to us in the old testament. He is a God who is all Merciful, ready to pardon our transgressions if we truly repent for them and resolve to do our best, as humanly as possible, not to commit them again in the future. He is a God who see us as His children...similar to how a loving human father sees his children, but only with much more (infinite) goodnes and understanding.

You see, friend, to experience God does need these faith because He is Someone we don't physically see now in His material form (unlike the time when Jesus came down and lived with the people, and in the Holy Eucharist although this is tough to believe even among Christians). If the individual uses only pure reason to attempt to explain everything that happens, then he may be missing seeing God's hands in situations that we find ourselves in. We need a balance between faith and reason.

Antione de Saint Exupery wrote in his short novel entitled 'The Little Prince' :"it is with the heart that one can see rightly... what is essential is invisible to the eye". Having this kind of outlook is actually a grace from God. He can allow you to experience His goodness if we open up our hearts to Him...that is where He lives in us.

Friend, we can relate specific experiences but you see, they may not prove anything for it depends on the outlook of the recipient.--- It may be too abstract or even silly for someone who does not believe in the existence of God. Besides, experiencing God does not occur only sporadically...it is a continuous process in the same manner that we live our life continuously. To experience God is to have Him in our hearts...and we are continuously experiencing God in our simple and ordinary day to day life. Try openning your heart instead and allow God to work on you. He is the Person who has the greatest concern for you...and He may yet answer your question with much more clarity for He knows the best way to do this, in His time. Be assured that He loves you whoever you are, and whatever you do. :-) May God's peace be with you always.

I Just finished watching the nativity, and during the movie, I asked God, cuss hes so silent to me, the same time joseph asked in prayer when he asked God give me a sign that, im on the right course. At the end of the movie, I heard a voice to me heres your sign, I kinda forgot about it by that time. The narrator, or mary(can't remember little exicted) she was going through what God dose to people, about poor become rich, can't remember the rest till the last one, when she said the humbled are exalted. I felt the holy spirit, go from my head down my spinalcord, and the evil spirit that is in me freaked out, Im talking my head, feat everything like a demonic hate dance(only way I can describe it to U, was no dance though) Im talking extremly pissed off afect( by the way Im a demon possesed christian, and I not glad hes there)(long story) I was like WOW. that was really cool, makes me happy when the devil gets pissed of, at the same time the Lords says, Im on course.
i've had many experiaces.

I can tell you,but you have to be willing to accept it as true.I know it's true cuase I was there, but for you this will sound impossible.

When I was younger(ashamed to admit)I actually pretended I had a ton of imagiary friends.Well while basically pretending to be playing with theese imaginary friends,in my room I had a thin long bed that was in the corner&at the foot was a dresser.Well in my play I had got on the bed, climbed on top the dresser&with no thought for where I was(cuase i was wraped up in play),I ran(yes ran)of the top of the dresser;well after running off,I ran to what I think was about the middle of the room, stopped!Looked left&right to notice that I didnt see any of the stuff that should be in my room
I dont remember exactly why,but I walked back to where I know I had been(Here comes he stunning part),when I walked back, apparently I didnt walk completely back onto the dresser, cuase I looked down&realized for a brief second I was standing on air(YES!Standing on air),cuase the next thing that happen was I fell right on a upside down trampolin in my room(room was super messy back then). Then I maybe thought about what happen for about five seconds and continued what i was doing
But now looking back on it I realize how amazing and miraculous it was, cuase I see that for whatever reason,God was there and allowed my to walk and stand on air for a little while

Trust me,that story is 100% truth,it was no dream,it was REAL;cuase I remember it very vividly and now have a greater respect and understanding of that moment God briefly revealed Himself and His power to me.

Here's one: It was my first date with my husband and we were on a dinner cruise. God told me that this man was going to be my husband. It was like a jolt of electricity went through my body and then I knew. I didn't say anything and I wasn't happy about it. But, it was true. It left me totally confused when we later broke up. It was like I couldn't get upset because it didn't make sense to me. God had told me that we would be married. And, of course, eventually we were.

You wouldn't believe anything we would tell you about anyway. I have had something happen to me, I know it was real, and that there is no explanation for it. You didn't experience it, you would just say it was all in my head or a lie. You won't believe anyones experience. You can't.
