I'm about to get my high school physical which requires a shot. I'm super scared of shots, and I pretty sure I will freak out when I see the needle. Does anyone have ideas to help my fear of needles go away so I don't flip out when I have to get the shot???

Well first of all, look in the other direction and try not to think about the shot. Try to think about anything else, something that you like doing, things that you like in general etc. Most importantly, try to relax. Not just because it makes you feel better and more calm, but relaxing will relax your muscles as well which makes it hurt a lot less. If you're relaxed, you won't feel more than a pinch. But as for you fear of needles, just try not to pay attention to the needle itself and think of something that makes you happy and stuff. Hope everything works out fine! :)

don't look at the needle at all and don't visualize how the needle looks going in. this is a little gross, but think about the pinch as something that was caused by another action -- like squeezing a pimple. i mean, the pain level is comparable, and it's more normal than getting a needle stuck in your arm. =/

Try not to look at the needle, take deep breaths and if you can, take a friend so you can look at them and talk to them so it will keep your attention away from the needle. Don't worry too much, it will just last a second and then you can move on!

i was the same way, i took someone with me and made him hold my hand while they were doing. i didnt look at the needle at all. i was shaking because i was so scared of needles. it went by so fast and i could barely even feel it. thinking about it too much really just blew things out of proportion because it was so quick and painless.

Do not look at the needle. Most injection givers are very good at giving shots, if they are you may not even feel it. I do not.
