Let's understand that there are hard times all the way through life so why shouldn't gay couples be able to adopt? I think it would be a great thing. I know gay couples that would do great with kids and would love to have them. Who knows, maybe a gay relationship is a better home life then a straight relationship. If we aren't gay, how would we even know the beginning of how things could be?

Think of it, for the people above that say that children should be raised by both female and male...what about single parents? That child then only has one figure in their life. What are you afraid of? Them turning gay as well? My friends come from families of mom and dads and they turned out that way, it's not something they can help or change.

Of course gay couples should be able to adopt. What is this, 1950? Please! The only hard times that a child would get is from people who think they should get a hard time, so by having that mentality, you are feeding the hate that adopted kids of gay couples may face. Children of gay couples that I have known always are 1000% more confident than their peers and feel 1000% times more loved that most of their peers. Anyone who has a problem with the gay community raising kids probably didn't have the most fantastic upbringing themselves. Opinionated of me? Yes, but from reading alot of these answers, I may be one of the few people answering who has actually known gay people. I am not saying that all gay people make great parents, but neither do many many straight couples!

Absolutely. Why not? Just because they are gay? What the hell difference does that make? It is not going to make the child gay, or a psycho or whatever people think. They deserve to have a family just as much as anyone else. And what about all the poor kids out there who are waiting to be adopted? They deserve a happy loving home and if a gay couple can provide that, who is anyone to say they can't adopt?!!!

YES yes and yes. there is an application process to be able to adopt and if they pass then good for them. as for the child or children being teased by others i would have to say that the problem is with the ones teasing not the children who were adopted by gay couples. there needs to be more knowledge about gay couples put out in the world and have less critism put towards them. and NO i am not gay i am one person and this is my opinion. my best friend is gay though and you couldn't ask for a better man.

i know im probably in the minority on this matter but as a christian i just dont think it is a healthy atmosphere for a child to grow up in im not questioning that they will recieve adequate love in a gay home just that i think a child deserves a mother and a father figure and as hard as they may try a man cant be a mother and a woman cant be a father. but at the same time i also feel there are many straight people who should never have been blessed with a child

Gay couples should be allowed to adopt. Some people may think that oh the child may be traumatized or something but gay couples are just like any couple except they have the same sex partner so whats the problem?

Yes, we should be allowed to adopt and no, I don't think the child will have a hard time of it.

Yes. There are too many American children in the foster system because their parents can't take care of them. And for all those saying a child needs a male and a female....maybe we should educate men on how to be Men and not walk away from their children because they are "not ready". Loving parents are loving parents regardless of sexual orientation. YOU CANT TURN SOMEONE GAY!! The same as you can't turn someone straight!

There are so many children in the world that need a home, and someone to love them, so why would it matter if the someone that loved them was gay, as long as they were being loved? Gay or Straight should not matter. The amount of love given is what should matter. As long as the child's basic needs are being met, it shouldn't matter. Children need love, and it doesn't matter who is loving them.

By the way I am straight, but I do know a gay couple that have a little boy, and they are all doing fine and wonderful.

What about interracial couples? Won't the kids be exposed to ridicule?

What about couples who are overweight?

What about couples who are not Christian?

What about couples where one is significantly older than the other?

What about couples who suffer from dwarfism?

Allowing adoption to any of these would expose the child to ridicule.

It would also likely expose them to a healthy, compassionate, and nurturing home.

I have no problem with gay couples adopting a child.
