It is better for all dogs who are not breeders to be neutered.

Pros...It lessens the risk of prostate cancer, which is pretty common in older, intact dogs. It makes most males more docile. It makes them less likely to roam and less likely to fight. No accidental pregnecies and no unwanted pups. The risk of surgery is minimal and the procedure is short.
Cons...There are no cons.

Vets usually recommend that dogs get altered at 6 months of age.

However, if you are an experienced and obsessive dog owner, then you may choose not to go through with the surgery. You just have to make a promise that your dog will never impregnate ANY dog and you must be dilligent about it.

Many people choose to alter their dogs because it is easier, it can make their behaviour more manageable, and it protects them from certain diseases.

The ONLY ethical reason to breed a dog is if he's a show champion or a competition champion of some sort (like excels at what the breed was meant to do). And then, the dog needs to come from champion parents (not just bloodlines), needs to be hip and joint certified, needs to have a FABULOUS temperament, and needs to be as close to standard as possible.

Beware, there are a TON of unethical backyard breeders on Yahoo Answers (like BYB China), so please take all their advice with a grain of salt. They believe that ANY dog should be bred so that there can be lots of puppies running around. This is not a moral stance nor is it a smart one.

Good luck to you and your pup. : )

You absolutely should. Neutering is usually done at 6 months of age, and has many positives. First, it ensures that he will not create any more unwanted puppies. The overpopulation of dogs is crazy. And it also helps prevent him from wanting to mark his territory in the house. It also eliminates chances of testicular cancer, and greatly reduces other health problems, including prostate problems. Neutering your puppy is a Great Idea!

I think that might be a little young to neuter. But when your dog is old enough, I recommend it. There are so many dogs (rotties, especially) in need of good homes but living in shelters. The more dogs we breed, the less homes will take them. Unless you know exactly who will take the puppies, and whether or not they will be good "parents," I would definitely neuter.

Not yet! It is always a good but much research says neutering this young can change growth patterns and temperament. Once your puppy is older having him neutered not only has health benefits but will keep him from wanting to mate which makes a much better companion.

Yes, you should neuter your dog.

Neutering him may help prevent aggressive behavior and unwanted behavior, like spraying to mark his territory.
Unneutered dogs are also more likely to get out of their fence and go looking for a girlfriend. A loose dog has a greater chance of being injured or lost, so get that doggie neutered!

It depends on if you plan to breed it. If your dog is not purebred don't breed a mutt. If your dog is a purebred with papers and you'd like to breed it in the near future, don't neuter it.
