I recall a video of a single blade of grass growing and splitting a solid slab of concrete, but don't recall where I saw it. I have been told this is not possible, but I still believe it is. Anyone know the answer to this?

Yes grass can grow through the cavities created in solid concrete with the help of moulds. One such very popular product is Grasscrete manufactured by Grass Concrete Ltd. of UK and supplied in Australia by Enviro Concrete & Constructions (www.enviroconcrete.com.au). Grasscrete moulds create holes or cavities in concrete which can be filled with top soil and grass seeds. It is generally used for driveways, car parks, landscaping, access roads, hardstanding, firepaths slope protection etc.

It is possible if (1) the concrete is really thin, or (2) if there is a small crack for the grass the grow through.

Perhaps it was the grass roots that split the concrete?

Would'nt think a single blade of grass could split concrete.I've heard of a mushroom growing through concrete, but not cracking it

Grass manages to find the tinyest cracks and open them wider.
I have also seen straw sticking out of concrete that was shot there by a tornado.

Time can weaken the concrete and crack it. Depending on ongoing temperature, age, thickness, etc.
