I contribute to society every day. I need no special day for that. But thanks anyway.
Edit: I'm sorry...I see what you are saying now. yes I think I will give blood that day. I'm already an organ donor but it's been about a year since I last gave blood. Marking my calendar now.

Why do you think I need to do anything on May 3rd, to me as an atheist this day is the same as any other day and need`s no special consideration, I actively contribute to society when I want to not just because it is a certain day, is spending time on your knee`s contributing to society? I think not, instead of kneeling you could help a pensioner by cutting their grass, doing their shopping, or just give them company, this would be more beneficial to society.
Chris.

Unlike some people, I don't feel the need to put my deeds up in lights for everyone to see. I contribute to the betterment of society. That's more than you need to know. I think it's pretty arrogant of anyone to assume that because we're not religious, we do not contribute. I'd wager to say that we contribute more than most christians.

Prayer is something that is private and intimate with one's chosen god(s) and/or goddess(es). If by "actively contributing to society" you mean helping people out like a person should every day, then I certainly hope so.

No. I'm not going out of my way to help on prayer day. You put your money where your mouth is and help that day. I'll continue to actively contribute to society on my own scheduled days.

I contribute positively to society every minute you waste with your hands clasped together and your eyes closed asking a non-existent entity to suspend the laws of nature so that you can have your way.
DON'T WASTE ANY MORE TIME PRAYING - IT DOES NOTHING!

I already make regular contributions of blood. Maybe I'll show up that day, too. I'll be due.

I only question the origin of this celebrated day.
For instance was this day started by Catholic priests to break-in their alter boys? ( you're the one who brought up knees)
Yeah, yeah.... I know, going to Hell, but the jokes on you there is no hell, so said Jesus ;-]
Live well ........and pray for your own intelligence
