sorry to tell you that the pope did not die in 1981 i was only 16 years old when the news reported that (pope john paul the 2nd was shot on a Assassination attempts
On May 13, 1981 John Paul II was shot and critically wounded by Mehmet Ali Ağca, a Turkish gunman, as he entered St. Peter's Square to address an audience. He was then rushed into the Vatican complex, then to the hospital. It was at this time en route to the hospital that he lost consciousness.
