Rarely do I meet a 'Christian' who isn't a hypocrite. Yet they love to remind us of how Christian the U.S. is.
Take a look at the popularity of porn, the gluttony, the pursuit of materialism. If I had a dime for every Christian hypocrite I met I'd buy out Microsoft.

I'll try this again, the intenet just completly shut off on me. ) :
I have experienced the works that I've done on my own accord, and those worls that I have done through the urgings of the Holy Spirit. It's those actions-- the ones of the Spirit of god, that have the eternal implications that stay with you-- though to his glory.
They are different though. Works can be the focus. Or trusting God can be the focus. What's my text for that?
Proverbs 3: 6 in all your ways acknowledge him,
and he will make your paths straight.
So there is a time where we must come to grips as to what we will do. I was faced with wondering what sort of works I would so, something that someone else says, or something that He urges me to do? What if I cannot get the urge to do anything worth while for Him? What then? Will God have me going to heaven with nothing to do for him? That's not what He did. Since I trusted Him, I got set upon the path that I am on now. I get to describe the things of God to people on the
internet, believer's and unbelievers alike.
And that's what I am doing now with you. Knowing that there is a difference to works because everyone else says that we have to is one thing-- and doing the works because His Spirit is urging you is quite another.
I hope that helps you.

The Bible says that you are saved by the grce of God not works so that no man may baost about what he has done. But if you truly follow God and love Him good works will naturally follow. I do agree with you about not doing whatever you want. The Bible says something about that too, though I cant exactly reaclll what. I think it says that the person who perposly sins after recieving Christ is stamping on his gift. Im not exactly sure its been a while since I read that. Have a blessed evening

Trying to live by works alone will do you no good. nothing you can do will put you on God's "good side". You are saved only by God's grace.
Christians ARE called to follow the commandments, but people are imperfect and don't always do as they are told.
As for consequences: There are consequences. When you die, you will answer to God according to how you lived your life. So there most definitely is judgement and consequences for your actions. Saying "I'm a Christian" and being one in name only will do you no good.

You know what, I was just thinking the same thing. Of course the Atonement had to occour for our redemption, but the idea that we are saved regardless makes our whole existnce on earth rather pointless. We are here to be tested, not to go do whatever and have the time of our lives. What would be the purpose of having laws and commandments if we do not follow them? The idea of repantance would defeat itself. Why would we even have religon as we know it? Even though we don't all agree, we should all respect each other's beliefs anyway.

You are incorrect to think that most Christians who believe in grace think that there are no consequences for sin. I believe in justification by grace apart from works because my Lord died because of the consequences of sin. I also believe that grace teaches us to say no to sin and to say yes to righteousness. I also believe that a faith that does not result in good works is like a body without the spirit -- dead. I also believe that God will judge everyone according to their works, and that includes me, and that includes Mormons too. I am not Mormon; I am just a Christian.

Well er... this is a cool question. And I really can't answer it because I'm not sure what I believe right now. I do find it funny that some people who are christians don't do anything remotely similar to the teachings of Jesus and whatnot. Soo... can't really answer this but I'm looking forward to seeing what other people have to say.
Edit: And if you are a christian and do follow the teachings of Jesus, don't get offended by this or anything. I said SOME people, not all, of course. :)

Believe it or not I am a christian and I rely on GOD because
he is my savior! But I am p.h. I am like you, I have no idea
why catholics baptize babies. The bible says every child
that does not know what they did wrong is safe. But ( back
to the subject) if you rely on GOD he will keep you safe.
thats a promise

We believe in the mercy of Allah - but that mens we keep up our end of the deal also and that is to follow what He has laid out for us in the Quran. Many of the same things are in the Bible as well actually. We can only try our best and be as sincere as possible in our actions and the rest is up to Allah, the Most Merciful. :)

I think you're questions would be better answered at a Christian church or coming from the Bible. In fact, I know so.
