"Like father, like son" a very known popular quote explains how the son is like his father. Is this quote describing the character of the son or just merely talking about the physical trait or appearance? On the side note, talking about character alone, do you think every son eventually carries all or some of his father's emotional, thought, and behavior patterns?

Physically, studies show that 7 out of 10 boys inherit 75% of their father's traits. As for personality, 0%. Personality is not inherited, it is created by the person.

According to a well respected professor I once had, he said that it is based on the environment one is in. So for example, if a parent has the tendency to drink a lot, the child growing up in the environment will most likely do the same when he is older because it's what he is used to.There is actually no scientific proof that says that alcoholism is hereditary, so I would assume like alcoholism, behavior is a choice. I inherit a lot of my mother and father's traits, so I feel it really does depend on the home environment.

Physically it's all down to the genes, emotionally there's a good chance he will follow the example he is set unless he makes a conscious effort to behave differently.

But if it's a bad trait like being an alcoholic or an abuser....it might even be higher.
