I came across the most wonderful products for problems just of this nature at Petsmart. They are made by Veterinarian's Best and are for multi ear problems. I bought the double pack containing 2 products. First you apply the Ear Relief Wash and clean out with cotton or a tissue. (Swabs can push the wax further down the ear canal and cause major problems.) Then apply the Ear Relief Dry. It WILL clear up the problem within 2 weeks and it leaves the ears smelling nice and fresh and DOES NOT sting like alcohol. Besides medicinal ingredients , it contains aloe vera and chamomile to soothe ears. I have used many products over the years but swear by this stuff!
Has your dog swam in a stagnant pond? There are bacteria in them that cause ear problems. A Lab we owned had an allergy to pine tree pollen that according to out vet caused an ear fungus. Not sure what it is but I have no doubt whatsoever that the products I named will cure it.

Oh sweetie you should never use q tips in your dogs ears. All they do is push the ear wax and dirt down further into the canal. Then when they go swimming the water get trapped in the canal and the ear gets infected. That's the smell and the gunk you saw coming out before.

You need to take him to the vets to really get his ears cleaned out, and get some meds to clear it up. Have them show you the proper way to clean your dogs ears while your there.

I have a cocker and for 9 yerars we go through this...it is more than likely infected. Try 2 parts whit vinegar and 1 part water in a squeeze bottle and go in and squeeze alot. Let them shake. No qtips, but wipe out around the outside with a cotten ball. I also give my dog 2 adult benedryl to help with any allergy and swelling because most dogs scratch with an infection. Do this routine twice daily. until better, but it sounds like you need a vets oppinion first. We go through this so often, I don't need his opinion much, because he says..you know the drill. P.S. it is not good to get bath water and soap down a dogs floppy ear, it just sitsmin thier and causes it to be worse.

oh man I am right there with you. I just went through the same thing with my dog yesterday. The smell was horrible. It was a ear infection as I am sure you already know. They game him some drops and his ear already looks better although the smell is still there but it seems to be clearing up really well. Good luck!

First you should not be digging in your dogs ears with Qtips. You need to get him to the vet for proper care and instructions. Ear infections can be very serious if left untreated. Whether caused by earmites, allergies or bacteria sore ears can make a dog miserable. Be a responsible owner and get him treated.

My parents Austrailian sheppard has the same problem. We took him to the vet and It's Kinda like an infection I guess your vet should be able to give you ear drops for him. It will keep coming back every now and then.

Yes the smell is horrible but the drops really do make it better

It sounds like it could be an ear infection. Take your dog to the vet so that they can prescribe some medication to put in your dog's ear to clean it right up. My dog gets ear infections too but they are not as extreme as the ones that your dog sounds like it is having. i hope your dog gets better soon!

That seems serious, the best thing to do is take him to the vet. Look all over his ear and in it to for any dry skin, reedness, swelling, bumps, ect. (anything unusual). Does your dog try to scratch it or lick it at all? I think you should clean its ears a little more often though. Don't clean its ears down any further that you can see, you might have cut somthing and caused an infection. Can somebody PLEASE get checto?!?!?

sounds like he might have an infection going on does his ears seem to be warmer than usual? if so I would take him to the vet and get checked for an ear ache. Some breeds are just prone to ear infections especially after swimming :(

your dog probably has an ear infection. You need to get your dog to the vet so you can get meds for the ear and possibly oral antibiotics. Then your vet needs to show you how to properly clean the ears with an EAR CLEANSER NOT WATER.
