Valet Vacation is a storage/Rental company that rents packages for example,
2 sets of new snorkel sets (which you get to keep)
2 portable Hammocks w/ carry case (awesome for thebeach)
2 boogieboards
1 collapsible cooler (30 can cooler)
1 High-powered binoculars for whale watching
the whole package costs $149 and you get it for a week plus you get to keep the two new snorkel sets. Also, they bring it to where ever you are staying and pick it up when you leave. They are a great deal and I know they can include a BBQ with the package for an extra $50. They are in Lahaina and there number is 1-888-40-VALET.

The only place I trust for rented snorkel gear is SNORKEL BOB'S. They have good gear and reliable service. Everyone else just has the cheap stuff that will leak and make your snorkeling experience a misery. There are three locations on Maui: Kihei, Lahaina and Kaanapali.

Things to know about snorkeling on Maui:

1. Snorkel early in the day before the wind and the waves kick in. 7 AM is better than 8 AM. 8 AM is better than 9 AM. I can't overemphasize this enough! If you wait past noon to snorkel, you will waste your time.

2. Check the surf report and go to spots where the water is expected to be flat.

3. Good snorkeling spots in south Maui: Ahihi Cove, Ulua Beach and the rocks between Kamaole II and III beaches. Again, go in the morning, the earlier the better.

4. The "14 mile marker" spot on the road to Lahaina is a waste of time, avoid it. But, if you go early, Black Rock in Kaanapali is supposed to be great. Another excellent spot in West Maui is Honolua Bay. However, you will need to hike a little bit, and the water may be murky if it rained recently.

5. If you think that renting snorkeling gear is too expensive, you can buy cheap used gear at the Salvation Army and Goodwill Stores.

6. Never put your flippers on before getting in the water. You will look like a real dork! Get in the water with flippers in hand and put them on your feet once you are in the water.

Have fun!!

Maui Dive Shop! Check out their snorkel and dive trips too! Absolutely awesome! 6 star trip! Try the one out of Maalea Harbour to Turtle (Oluwalu) Point. The best I have ever snorkeled and I have been going to Maui for 40 years! Alii Kai I believe was the name of our boat.
