I do very much appreciate the answers I have received from you all thus far....However I would like to add...I know that a hernia in some situations can heal itself because I have 2 brothers and they both had hernias and wore theses support type things and it eventually healed itself and they never had to get surgery. However their advantage over my dad is they are young (23 and 25). So he is wondering if there are any natural remedies that help increase blood flow in that area to promote healing or any other ideas of natural healing sort.

I just had hernia surgery 4 months ago. A hernia is a tear in the stomach wall, I am pretty sure that surgery is the only way to fix it. If you don't get it taken care of it can eventually strangulate the intestine causing all sorts of plumbing problems you don't even want to think about. This was my second surgery, I had to have both sides done, 15 years apart, this one was much better, didn't have near as much pain, and the recovery time was pretty fast.

Yes! Hernia can be healed without surgery. A healthy lifestyle, good diet choices are the first step. Then, there are good ayurvedic medicines which work effectively. These medicines strengthen your abdominal muscles, heal the affected organs and provide holistic healing. Even after healing, it is important to follow a healthy lifestyle to stop Hernia from reoccurring.
I could suggest few Ayurvedic medicines if you like. Do let me know.

Sorry, a hernia requires surgery. Ask any doctor. Yes, there are things that can be worn to hold things in depending on where the hernia is but they will not heal the hernia.

i'm a surgical intern.
a hernia is weakness in the abdominal wall. hernias do not repair themselves. they are life threatening if you strain or lift heavy objects.. the reason being because the bowels begin to protrude through the hole. if this happens, just push it back in. though when it doesn't slip back, you have a strangulation of the bowels which results in death.
you did not specify which type of hernia that your father had, but all can be fixed. most surgeons use a mesh to patch up the hole. or if it's small enough, just stitches. find a surgeon who will do this laparoscopically, it has the fastest recovery rate.
you dad does need surgery. convince him.
best of luck~
EDIT:
yes, at times i do recommed a band around the abdomen though this is only due to circumstances pertaining to the age of a patient and his or her ability to recover from an operation.
as i said, herinas are not like the liver.. it cannot heal itself.

They were advised not to do any exercise, no yoga, no gym, no running, no weight lifting, and these herbal medicines, with some diet suggestions. It really worked

There is a truss, which is a supportive belt they used in the old days. Talk to a doctor and see if they are still available.
