What features should I look for in a hair straightener? I have very thick and curly hair. Nothing too expensive...maybe something that costs around $30-$40. Thanks! ;)

The best straighteners for thick and curly hair are at least $100 but you can get some straighteners at rite-aid or walgreens for about that price. Look for a ceramic straightener, and try not to get one from conair-those are not made well. Try vidal sasoon, theirs are cheap and work okay. Do not use it on wet hair, some say you can, but it doesn't work at all. It damages your hair even more, and never get your hair chemically straightened. That's the worst thing you can do. If you have curly hair, try wearing your hair curly every so often with a frizz ease serum, or some light mousse. You should not get into a habit of straightening your hair everyday once you get a straightener. You will have really bad ends & your hair will get very dry. Good luck!

If you want a decent hair straightener then you're probably going to have to pay more than $40, especially since you hair is thick and curly. I have thick hair but it's pretty straight, but I do straighten it all of the time because it makes it straighter lol.
My mom bought mine for Christmas 2005 and they still work as well now as they did when I got them. They were around £80 in UK money so I think that around $160-ish, expensive but they're really good.
Have a look around and see what's out, it is more than likely that you will have to pay more though.

Ceramic straighteners are definitely best. I straighten my hair every morning. Check out straighteners at a professional hair care store, like Joico or Maritime Beauty Supplies. The best ones are usually around $50-$60. If you find it doesn't work that good on your curly hair, try Got2b blow dryer and straightening cream. Its about $5-$6 at drugstores or at Wal-Mart. the straightner that works best on
my hair is a CONAIR ceramic turbo straightner
make sure it is a pretty good thickness cuz you dont want it to take you too long to straighten your hair
i think you can get it at walmart for like $25-30

well, there are many good straighteners out there around that price, but i think that good products are more important to having straighter yet healthier hair. I would suggest using "S Factor" brand. I use the heat protectant so it doesnt damage hair, and straightening spray to thin out the curls and help achieve the straight look..good luck with finding a straightener, I hope you try those products, they really work!!

I have the same hair. Go for ceramic plates and get the highest heat you can get. Make sure the plates are decent in width too because you dont want it to take you too long. I got mine at Wal-mart for $41 and it works wonders. I also suggest that you use the sun silk straighten up formula shampoo, conditioner, and straightening cream. Its that hairap stuff in the purple pinkish bottle. It really helps as you straighten it. Just remember CERAMIC

something that cheap, honestly i would leave it alone. I'm a world traveling hairstylist and I use the Bio Ionic Hair straightening system, VERY good, other than something like that, you WILL regret it! Tal to a local professional, and not at a haircuttery or supercuts.

i dont know any good features for a hair strightener...but i no that good hair straighteners with all the good features cost more than $30-$40...

most likely you wont find one in that price range...
LOOK FOR REAL CERAMIC straighteners... they bind the cuticle for healthier hair and dont cause split ends..
when straightening hair.... do a test straighten with a kleenex or paper towel... if it doesnt turn brown.... its functioning right...and is safe to put in your hair....
try going to hair salons and asking the brand name of the ones they have.
sometimes they sell them there too.

I reccomend the "Remington Wet to Strait" straitener. It is a wet to dry straitener, It is ceramic and it gets REALLY hot if you need it to. It's only $20, and a Number of my friends have commented that it works as good, or better, than their $50-$100 straiteners!!!
