When I walk on hard surfaces the bottom of my foot hurts...its not the heel its the front part up by the toes, but not the toes themselves. When I wear shoes it doesnt hurt though.I checked and I dont feel any bumps or anything in the area of the pain. Is this a serious problem?

I have a similar problem, caused by a sagging metatarsal (one of the long bones in the foot ). There isn't much to be done for it, other than to avoid standing for long periods or walking too much.
It's possible you're developing a corn, or maybe a plantar's wart. These are minor problems as well. If your feet feel better wearing shoes, wear shoes.

Probably not. Have you experienced any recent trauma to this area? If not are you on your feet a lot through out the day. Everyone walks differently and it just sounds like that may be it. Don't go bare foot if that is the only time it hurts. Try wearing flip flops of slippers around the house. Maybe ever some insoles to your shoes. If it gets worse contact your physician.

It could be a condition called Plantars Fasciitis. This is an inflammation or tearing of the connective tissue in the foot. I suggest seeing a doctor about it if it's persistent, and definitely stay off of it until then.

Usually plantar fasciitis(the actual problem when people talk about bone spurs) is felt in the back by the heel, but not always. If the pain continues I would recommend seeing a doctor. It could be plantar fasciitis or a problem with the arch. Both problems can be helped potentially with arch supports. The plantar fasciitis can also ease with exercise. Go to webmd.com and search both. Talk to your Dr about both possibilities.

Could it have something to do with your shoes? I know you said it doesn't hurt when you have shoes on, but maybe there is some pressure coming from them that is hurting your feet? You could always try some insoles, they might help - doesn't hurt to try since foot problems are awful. I bruised my heel over the winter and it hurt for weeks - I ended up getting the insoles below and it helped. Take care!

You could have pulled a muscle or a ligament, or it could be a broken bone. My fifth metatarsel (sp?) was broken for almost 2 years before I knew it. I thought I just pulled something in my foot when I sprained my ankle badly.

Check for planter warts. If you work on hard surfaces> concrete floors. Sometimes they are under the skin just enough so you can't see them. They are caused by bruising???
