Black cats are just that, black cats. I honestly do not know why the superstition started, and don't feel like reading all the bull-roar that comes up when it's googled. My take on it, and only mine, is the simple fact that at night, the solid black cat can't be seen until you are nearly on top of it, then it jumps up and runs. In the middle ages, this would have been enough to make people think they were popping up from hades. This is my thoughts, lol. My little black female, along with her Grey brother, was left on my front porch, both were nothing but bags of bones and so cold I never expected them to live the night thru. She is a sleek, gorgeous vamp now, but when she is in the shadows, the light doesn't even reflect off her coat, lol.

It is a cat period, neither lucky or unlucky. They are like dogs, horses, or even people they don't have a choice of what color they are born so what would make a black cat any more unlucky than a cat of any other color?

Superstition. in the middle a at the same time as Cats were no longer such undemanding pets as dogs were and they were seen in additional beneficial effective words as mousers and ratters. in spite of the undeniable fact that, they were also considered as devilish beasts, the black ones (even more beneficial devilish than some thing else considering that black replaced into the color of the devil) were besides regarded because the companions of witches, because each body knew that the devil took the style of a black cat at the same time as vacationing in the international. in the iconography of Christian artwork, the cat symbolized both laziness and lust and human beings exhibiting affection to cats were considered as witches themselves. This went so a procedures that there have been cat purges the position the unfavourable beasts were massacred. some historians imagine that that's the reason why the rats presented the Black Plague so honestly to Europe, no cats left to kill the rats. Black cats were even more beneficial hunted than the ordinary mouser, that's why the color disappeared from the ecu breed for hundreds of years. in the Islamic international, the cat replaced into respected and secure because cats were loved by ability of the prophet Mohammed, the founding father of Islam. And to maximum superb Rachelle, a black cat crossing your route is undesirable success in France too

We have two black cats one long haired on short. We,ve had no bad luck as of yet. We do make sure that they don't go anywhere near the outdoors near halloween though. Black cats and halloween do not mix.

Neither, however I have noticed that many or most black cats I've know have been more hyper than other colors and also that they are not as easily trained to ride in the car without howling their heads off.
