A JRT is a high energy dog. Enroll in basic obedience class, give him lots of exercise. Get involved in flyball or agility. Without training, alot of JRT end up at shelters for behavior problems. Don't use a muzzle, crate your pup when you can't watch him, talk to other JRT owners, I can't say it enuf- Training will give you a great pet. It is the best thing you can do if you truely love your pup.

If you really have to muzzle him as a last resort only, use a basket muzzle. They are safer and the dog is able to pant and drink thorugh it since they do not completely enable them to open their mouths.
You may need to completely JRT proof your home. Buy only toys that cannot be torn apart. Stuffed animals are not good for a dog like this. Kongs and the hardest nylabones made are ideal. Crate him when you are not around to watch him.
Reseach this subject and consider seeing a behavior specialists if it is that bad.

I haven't seen a muzzle yet that can't be "thrown" off with in a minute. If you are watching him enough to prevent him throwing the muzzle you can just watch him enough to prevent him chewing on your stuff.
Now a CRATE is a wonderful thing to keep your stuff intact....

Muzzles are not really useful for teaching a dog not to chew on your personal items.

Your puppy shuld have his own toys or belongings. Never allow him to touch anything of yours with his mouth without your permission.

I always train my dogs not to place their mouth on people or indiscriminately start licking them. You need to spend about 5-10 minutes a day placing items that he is not allowed to play with within his reach and correct him anytime he goes for it.

Praise him when he plays with his own posessions. Most dogs can learn this in about a week or two. But you must enforce this training every time he messes up.

If your puppy is teathing, he needs something of his own to chew on.

My dog had the SAME problem. I bought this spray (with a nasty taste) and every time the dogs would chew on something I would spray his mouth and say NO. Or at night I would spray specific stuff I didn't want him to chew. You can buy it at Petsmart. It actually works. =)

Teach him to chew on his leg, i'm sure he'll get the idea. If not then eventually he will have lost the mobility needed to get around for chewing things beyond his reach.. place all items you wish to stay intact beyond that and life should be nifty! :)
